Default Can HW1080 drive two motors in parallel?

I have an application where I need to drive two identical 550 can brushed motors at close to the same speed. I'm wondering if I can connect two identical motors in parallel to the HW1080 or will I need two ESCs?

I would think so, as long as you stay under the 80a output the 1080 can do.

I wouldn't recommend using one ESC for two motors. Why would you want to since the HW Quicrun WP 860 is built for two motors and is cheaper than the HW 1080?

I have a spare HW1080 that I wanted to use in a twin screw boat build.

I'm not sure why anyone would use the 860 ESC if they already have a 1080. The 1080 can handle up to 80A (apparantly) and the 860 can only handle up to 60A so regardless if it's one motor or two motors the 1080 is more capable.

1080 should be fine as long as the props aren't too big

Unsure of application use other than what was mentioned. Yeah the 1080 can handle more amperage, but that may be irrelevant. I got one mainly to be able to run 4s with it, something a 1080 cant fo

I would suggest a counter rotating transfer case and one motor.

Too much money!

This is a budget build lake recovery tug and I was wanting to use the HW1080 and a pair of 550 can Titan 21T motors which I have just lying around taking up space. I actually already have all the electronics I need so this boat will cost me around $50 to build. Since I already have the parts, I think I will just mock it up on the bench and make sure it works. BTW, I looked at the HW860 and it just looks like they have the two motor leads coming from a common terminal on the ESC.

I can only presume he meant dual 860's vs single 1080. 60+60A > 80A

For a rescue tug you'd be far far better off using a china brushless outrunner. You could literally sell the hw1080 you have and buy a 3648 1100kv and a cheap boat ESC.

You could also use a much larger diameter prop rather than gear the brushed motors down or run a tiny, cavitation-prone prop. You also wouldn't risk melting the ESC down. Running duals w/in the ESC's rating is one thing, doing it air-cooled inside a hull is something else entirely. Any boater knows a rescue is never a simple "in & out" mission.

Fair enough but a transfer case costs about 22 bucks.

Isn't the 2 motors how you steer a twin screw boat? Like a tank right?

Edit: oh I looked up twin screw. I was picturing 2 worm drive pontune thingies.
