Oh, this is challenging :-)
Unfortunately the driveshaft turns at a higher revolution than the tires. We need to get the rpm down about three or four times to make a bike odometer work. Very interesting anyway!

Certainly. Such a high RPM is likely out of the limitations of a typical bike ODO, but just throwing out ideas.

I bet you could e6000 the magnet inside the tire, on the inside sidewall. The tire foam would help it stay in place. Wonder if it would pickup through the tire?

Doesn't Traxxas have telemetry? Just adapt that?

I am still looking at the odometer. Ciclosport odometers seem to have the biggest range of valid values (1000 - 3999mm).
Ciclo – Discover adventures

If you are ok with the odometer showing a multiple (tenfold) distance of the actual travelled distance, there could be a workaround. Circumference for a 4.25" tire is 339mm. If you enter a custom wheelsize of 3390mm, the odo will show 10 miles when actually 1 mile travelled.

I think it's just a matter of time before we see this sort of information/data retrieval available within packaged telemetry systems. It seems like Traxxas is ripe to offer this with their telemetry system.

That's what I'd do, just set the circumference in the cyclo-computer to be 10x (or whatever number works) the circumference of the rigs tire and then math it out..

Yes, I agree. They will do. We could lean back and wait for them to bring us what we would like to play with.
Don`t get me wrong, but isn`t it part of the hobby to fix things by your own?

If Traxxas marketing was smart (and they are) they would put GPS in the transmitter to track mileage walked and that into a step count, calories burned, etc and use that to prove RC is healthy!

It looks like you can take an Arduino and turn it into a digital tachometer, so I wonder if it's possible to take the RPM reading from, let's say the rear driveshaft, and have it get plugged into a bigger calculation for the mileage.

so you get scale distance traveled

why not use a optical pick-up from the driveshaft? a simple rpm circut , and some tiny ram to store total revolutions?

no magnets , optical would be small, and simple. a highly reflective surface would also keep dirt from sticking, so should stay clean.
