Electrics box
 

Just wondering what people use for an electrics box. I’m building an sc10ii and have a bec, two esc’s (one for the winch), and a receiver obviously but the stock box is way too small. Even if i leave one esc out there isn’t enough space. I’m thinking something like a servo box?

I think the bomber box is identical just not mounted to a side plate, could mount it with double sided tape on the opposite side plate for a clean look.

Double check that though, going off memory of something I briefly read awhile ago.

It's what I would consider unusual to put the esc's into a sealed box, they need airflow to help keep cool, in a box would be bad.
Most trucks I've seen have just the rest of the elec's (rx, bec, light ctrl) in a box & esc's out in the open.

For what it's worth the box off the original SCX10 is bigger than that on the 10.2, doesn't seal up as well though

In fact I've ditched all the boxes off any of my trucks & elec's just tied up neatly in the chassis.
But then I drive on rocks & trails & stay the h*ll out of the water.
I'll never understand all the pic I see of trucks swimming creeks up to the window line, WP elec's or not it's just not good for them.

I'd tend to agree with altd896. TWO ESC's sealed in one box are bound to overheat in anything but the coldest conditions. Why not go with waterproof ESC's, keep them out and breathing, and seal everything else up?

Also like, altd896, I tend to stay away from pretending my Crawler is a submarine. Some creek crossings, puddles, snow, etc - no problem. Most electronics these days are going to handle all that stuff just fine. Full submersion - not so much. Not to mention, you've got to be prepared to pretty much tear down the whole rig and rebuild after every submersion - if you want any sort of longevity out of the rig / your parts.

I like Traxxas RX boxes, sealed and normally roomy. My favorite is the one for the 2WD 'Pede. With that, your ESCs should be waterproof, there are not many that aren't anymore. Conformal coat the BEC and mount it outside of the box, use dielectric grease on the connectors.

Lastly, consider the whole mess "water-resistant", not waterproof. Due to my bad driving skills, I have fully submerged a couple of my RCs, so I know my waterproofing works, but I have considered myself lucky that nothing fried and is something I void if possible.

My experience with boxes is they're always too big or too small & always leak.

Now I just make sure my electronics are fully waterproofed. My "box" is just a bunch of zip-ties. The result is a far more compact electronics footprint. If they get dirty I just hose them off. They dry quickly, and I don't have to worry about a leaking box turning every solder joint white/green...or worse.

Waterproof boxes seem to be better at sealing water in then out in my opinion, I just buy waterproof electronics for cars I would consider getting wet.
