Default Recommend me a motor for a wraith?

I have a meetup in a month or so, and havent messes with my rc's in awhile and long story short, im gonna need a new motor.

I currently have a CC older sidewinder like a V2,and a old titan traxxas motor. Sounds like the spot is mostly woods and trails and not so much technical crawling,So was looking to get it a bit faster,Thinking like a 17T?

Im not opposed to a new esc/motor combo, Like the sound of the axe set up.

Any suggestions is appreciated!

Castle mamba x and your choice of a puller pro or a Revolver.

What's your budget? Do you want brushed or brushless?

I'd 2nd MasteroFlego's choice. Mamba-X and a HH Puller Pro. I run the 3500KV and it's simply awesome. Great low speed crawling resolution (sensored), and phenomenal wheel speed. I also run a 1800KV Revolver in another Wraith Based Crawler I built. It's also a phenomenal motor with its own unique characteristics. As a "do all" set up, trailing, crawling, and overall wheelspeed, I'd give the nod to the Puller Pro. If I were more focused on Crawling, I'd give the nod to the Revolver.

if you want to stay brushed, it's hard to beat a HH 13T Crawlmaster. It's a bit pricey for a brushed motor, but it's a damn good brushed motor. It will run through brushes fairly quickly though. For a more budget friendly brushed motor, I'd consider the HH Torquemaster series.

The other thing to consider is your gear selection. Spur/Pinion. 5.2:1 to 6.0:1 seems to be the sweet spot for Wraiths IMHO.

Even a cheap Chinese sensored motor runs great on a mamba X

Yup. I run the Hobbystar Pro4 sensored motor in my Yeti and I really like it. I'm thinking about getting another one to replace the Castle Slate in my Bomber.

You can get Castle's B link module and program it using that. If you go with the Mamba X and the Revolver you can run them on 4s, which would give you smooth startup and good wheel speed, sensorless and completely waterproof.

X still uses the same link to program.

The slate line of motors are fine in wet environments, I run a 2850 on an X and go snow bashing without issues

Im going to order the Mamba X,Was looking at motors and alot of them are like $150,,cant really go that much at the moment. Id like to have the esc and motor for $200 or less. Looks like the cheapest I seen the mamba x was $125,,So and good sensored motors for $75 or less? Im thinking I want like a 2800kv... Or am I just better off getting the mamba x combo with slate motor for $209? Also if you know of any good deals anywhere or coupons let me know,Thanks!

Thats a good choice..I also see a hobbystar pro 4 that is four pole instead of two pole for the same price, Would you be able to tell a difference?

Nobody but the original poster has mentioned the axe set up, I have the hobbywing axe 2300 KV and love it, for crawling I wouldn't use it for racing or bashing though, it's not really a Punchy combo. For bashing a racing I would stick with the Mamba X and I'm partial to the puller Pro Motors.

I have used the trackstar crawler motors now out of curiosity. I cannot report "good" startup or cool running. It jumps to life and has a rather high idle current. They did seemingly nothing to refine the startup compared to the other trackstars.

I developed the Puller PRo in the wraith. It's a powerful and cool running beast with extremely refined startup. The trailmaster also does extremely well for the price, starts smooth and runs cool. Smoother and cooler than the trackstar 4 poles, ha...

I run stock gearing on my personal rig with 3s and it’s a perfect mix of haul ass and crawling. You get the standard, not the Stubby?

Thanks for the support, much appreciated!

Do you think the 2700kv Stubby would be sufficent power for a Wraith that is spot on 8lbs? I'm using a Mamba Micro X ESC, 3s, and 51.4:1 overall gearing (58/11 spur/pinion, 2.6 trans, 3.75/ar44 rear axle) I've put a couple packs through my 1800kv Revolver now and while it drives well, I think I might be looking for something different. The temps of my motor and esc have not gone over 130° so I was hoping it could pull more gearing. Making the leap to a higher geared trans (1.8:1, for a final drive of 35.5) gave the top end I was after, but cogged more than I'd care for when crawling the technical stuff. I'm thinking that the 2700kv stubby would allow me to stay geared down, give a broader rpm range, without overwhelming my Micro X esc? How does start up compare between the 2700 PP stubby and the 1800 Revolver?

The stubby is just as smooth as the revolver. That sounds like a good choice for what you want. Just watch the heat on your eSC in particular.
