Default Mamba-x. How are you guys protecting it from water?

I know that the mamba-x is waterproof, but I'm having issues with water getting into the area where wires connect to the ESC.

Now, I've put dialectic grease on the sensor cables ends where the motor is and where the sensor wire connects, but the issue is that anytime water gets near the wires connected directly to the esc, things go nuts.

How do I prevent water from getting into those connections?

To be clear, I'm not driving in water, but snow does get into the chassis and water comes from that snow.

Iv driven mine through pretty deep streams and also wash off any debris in the bath with a shower after and never had any problems although my friend got stuck in a really deep muddy puddle upside down for about 10 mins and it started flashing red and not working after , he took it home washed in the bath with a shower then dried the esc completely and cleaned it thoroughly by taking of the casing and using alcohol on the connections and it was fine after that ,
I have found water in the sensor wire before which might be your issue possibly,... you dry the terminals off on the male side and still have water stuck in the female side still !

This is happening with two Mamba-x ESC's and it's annoying. Water pools in the part where those wires are, so I'm not sure how to keep that area dry while out on the trails. After having to lug my TRX-4 for a half hour walk of shame, I felt it necessary to ask for help.

Smear silicon around the wires to prevent the build-up of snow perhaps

Already done that. The problem is specifically in the area where the wires connect to the ESC (not only the sensor wire, but the AUX and power switch wires.

What issues?

I'm willing to bet it is the on off plug giving you issues when wet.

It may very well be that.

Today, I ran 3 packs through my truck on a nearly 3 hour hike. Suddenly, the truck acted like it was losing power, so I tried a new battery and it was pretty much not moving right. I ended up carrying it back to the csr6, but once I took the ESC wires off and dried the water that was there, it worked fine. I had an issue with the power switch not working because of water getting into my other truck, but that was just the power switch stuck on the on position - the truck still ran fine. This time, the truck was DOA once water got to those wires.

I was honestly considering that as I was cleaning my truck today! I wonder if that's recommended - I've never seen it mounted sideways.

The on/off switch that Castle uses on the Mamba X is awful. Bypass it or replace it.

I actually do like on/off switches on my truck, but let's say I snip it off and join the wires... What happens when the actual pins come in contact with water? Won't I just have similar issues, since the water isn't getting into the switch itself, but the pins on the esc.

I wonder if it might be worth putting some corrosion-x on the pins to keep water off and away : http://www.corrosionx.com/electronics.html

They seem to suggest it will work and not interrupt the connection.

As long as the pins are soldered together, water won't effect it, but heat shrink should keep water away from the solder joint anyway.

I like switches too. I replaced the one on my Bomber's Mamba X with a switch from a Hobbyking ESC. When the one in my Yeti goes, I think Ill put a toggle switch right in the center of the interior to simulate a shifter.

Have you tried putting dielectric grease on the harness connector at the ESC? Should work I'd think.

I have, but to be honest I'm afraid if getting to much on there as I'm not sure if it can get near/on the connector pins without causing problems. So grease goes around the plugs, but not too close to the pins.

That's why I'm wondering if corrosion-x might be an option, since it shouldn't interfere with the actual connectors.

Dielectric grease is fine, just don't go too crazy, as it does attract dirt.

Just to confirm. A thin layer can be put on the exposed pins themselves, then I can plug the wires onto those pins?

Yeah it is fine, no different than putting it on the sensor cable connection.
