Default Powering a light kit.

Hello everyone, I have a spare 3s lipo and was thinking I would put it in the front battery slot of my trx 4. I wanted to use it to power my light kit, however the light kit runs off 9v and I was wondering if there it is okay to power it off a 3s lipo or if there is a way to power it. Thanks everyone.

Couldn't you use a BEC to lower the power output to 9V and it would last longer than a normal 9V battery. Would probably be your best bet to not overpowering everything.

Which light Kit do u use?
If it is connected to the RX for functions like break turn lights .... It will get the power from the RX. That's how mine ist working in my TRex. I think your mentined 9V is just the max the kit can take.

I had thought of doing that. But they seems pretty expensive.

I used ledcalc.com to build my own 12v string and power it off the 3S balance port, during the day when I don't need lights, I just don't plug em in.

I heard if you power it off the balance port there was a chance you could flatten the battery completely and you won't be able to charge it again.

You sure can if you leave it sitting.

I don't use my lights unless I'm using the tinytruck, so no worries for me.

It's no different then tapping into the main power wires really.

Yeah I suppose I could buy a voltage checker to check the voltage.

The mytrick uf7 can handel 5V upto 16V (can be found under more read) so powering from 3s is an option
It gives also the choice to power it via the rx using the Y-cables or externally, so it's up to u I would power it by the rx, cause less cables ....

The quick math says my LEDs would take 36hrs to deplete my 2200MaH 3S lipos, I'm gonna have my ESC hit the voltage cutoff long before that. It's really not a big deal.

Forget to unplug your battery and it could be an issue in a day or two, but a twitching servo and blinking and beeping ESC will also flatten a battery too.

I've got the boom racing magnetic light thing so I can just take my body off and the lights turn off.

If you don't mind body clips, can buy cheap AA battery holders, cut the springs off and mount them to your body posts. Epoxy washers onto your body over the post holes and you got a $1 version without the weight but without the fancy wiring.

Na I've got the Xtra Speed JK Wrangler body coming in the mail. I don't really want to put holes into it for body posts.
