Re: battery packs....who's the best?

Gens-Ace for the money! I just picked up a 2S 2200mAh 25C at a LHS for $20. I run it in a Wraith (forward battery mod). This size is just right and it lasts a long time. I replaced the 6 year old one that I had, it was just starting to puff. I balance charge it at 2.0AMPS and when done I put it on a storage charge, been told that's what keeps them good for a long time. Don't forget to use a charging bag or a Bat-Box for safety when charging and storing.

GensAce or Turnigy Nanotech have always been the best for me. Long life, true capacity and durable.

My Venom packs take a beating and keep coming. I also have a set of these Lumenier 3S and 4S packs I'll link below that are of great quality - I had a handful of them stored not so nicely for 5 years from an old aerial photography platform build (before the Phantom 3/4/Mavic Pro/Inspire stuff was out). Been running them in my Mamba X / Puller Pro 2700kv setup and they still last hours and are as square and unpuffed as they were when new.

I see lots of Gens Ace out there too - I don't run any but always hear good things.

Here's the Lumenier:

SMC has experienced a lot of puffing recently and they won't do anything about it. Even on brand new batteries they claim it's user error. I know because I had a friend that had both of his new SMC batteries puff and he was left hanging.

I still prefer batteries from HobbyKing.

x2

I have several and haven’t had any issues with any of them. Lots of size and capacity options and their prices are tough to beat.

Couple years ago I had several start puffing after good care/maintenance and SMC did nothing. I haven't bought any SMC since, there are better lipos available...for cheaper.

it always seems that the more i pay for a battery the faster it goes bad the most exspensive battery i bought had a stick go through 2 of the cells in the first run so i just get the cheapest ones i can find in the size i need

TLDR: Hobby King's Turnigy batteries are hard to beat. SMC are the best and most honest, however I too have had some puff (3S 2800 that are amazing) and still very good IR. Danny at SMB is an honest guy in my opinion, but has been taken advantage of and is a bit less customer friendly than he could be.

Thunderpower is a joke (bad joke). MaxAmps are laughably overpriced and over spec'd.

All C ratings you see are made up.

You can't have light and high C, pick one.

Heat is a Lipo's enemy. Check the temps and if its under 130F you are good (110F to be safe and make them last longer).

I'm going to give the Helios packs a try. I like that the 3500 packs are only 208g and the same size as most other smaller packs.
