Default 1080 ESC on 4s

This may be a stupid question as I don't know a great amount about electronics, but has anyone found a way to run 4s on the hobby wing 1080 ESC? Or is it just not possible?

It's rated max 3s. So 4s isn't an Option.
The hw880 which is the dual motor Option of the 1080 can handle 4s.

Thanks for the reply
I know it s rated 3s max I just wanted to know if anyone had found a way to modify it to run 4s or perhaps I should look elsewhere for a different esc?

Never heard of anyone converting one of these to handle 4S, for the time and effort involved it would be better (and likely more reliable/less dangerous) to just get an ESC that can handle the voltage you wish to run from the factory.

Problems...
• The hole mess is encased in a rosin or coated for waterproofing, you'd need to get through that without destroying the PCB or anything on it.
• The FETs are designed for a specific amount of maximum power, exceeding the specifications will likely make them mad in a very energetic way.
• Most of these new ESC have over-voltage protection built in, preventing the user from doing exactly what you are proposing. Along with everything else, you'd need to reprogram, disable, fool, or bypass the protection logic.

When I got my first 1080, the very first thing I did after opening the box was plug a 4s into it. No dice. It would just flash and do nothing. Plug a 3s in and all was well again. So that has been my only gripe about the 1080.

Hobbywing's recently released (just a few months ago) WP880 looks like the solution for those of us that wish to run 4s. It has all the same programmable features as the 1080 except for adjustable BEC voltage, though the 6v BEC is up to 4a now (as compared to the 1080's 3a.) It is also a bit larger, has a crappy power switch (which is also lacking a program button) and does not include the program card... but it is cheaper ($33) and if you have a 1080 already, you have the program card. They have dual motor leads, but there's no reason that you can't run a single motor from it. I'll be taking advantage of RPP's 15% off sale and ordering a pair of them this weekend for my MOA project. For less than $30, I'm just not seeing the downside and it sounds like exactly what you're after too.
