Default Hobbywing AXE 550 System

I want to buy the new AXE set with the 550 engine for my TRX-4 sport. What should I go for, 3300kv or 2700kv? The car is only used for crawling.

I'd do the 540 and 1800 kv myself. I have it in one of my trx's. If your only crawling it's more then enough.

It is really a matter of personal preference based on driving style.

How do you like the amount of wheel speed and generally feel of the stock motor?

From there, you can have something:

#1 A little faster than stock = 2700kv, no other changes
#2 Much faster than stock = 3300kv, no other changes
#3 Slower than stock with more torque and control = 2700kv geared down
#4 About as fast as stock with more torque and control = 3300kv geared down

Since brushless motors don't lose torque with higher kv iterations like brushed motors and the axe motors are kinda low torque already, I would get the 3300kv and a 9t pinion and 45t spur and run it on 3s.

Option #4 suits me best i think. Do you have tips for Pinion? 5mm bore 32p 9t and 10t ?

They made it a 5mm rotor?! That's completely unnecessary but anyway go with the robinson racing 11t pinions. Or mill the end of the rotor down to 1/8, that's probably what I would do, since I doubt there is enough power to twist the shaft if they used any sort of quality metal.

I still say there is no reason to go to a 550 can in a trx for just crawling...lol...get the 540 axe.

Not if you want a 9t pinion... Gear reduction is awesome. They might make a 9t 5mm pinion but it probably won't line up with the spur properly.

Because the teeth on that one are out past the end of the motor shaft. For that pinion to work on a trx4 you would need to cut the shaft shorter or press the shaft out the back of the rotor some (which might break it). If you don't that fat area with the set screw is going to contact the spur instead of the teeth. Which is also an option, just not one I would use because I'm not expecting the hr gears to be as good as other 1/8" options.

It's not that difficult to sand down the shaft, just turn on the motor and slowly grind it down with a stone or sand paper watching out for heat. Measure often.
