DIY controllers

No I didn't search in my noob anticipation, but I was curious if anyones made their own Arduino or Raspberry Pi controller.
I've seen a few DIY pages with toy grade Wi-Fi projects, but seemingly this could be a legit use for crawlers and other RCs you're never very far from.

Wouldn't a raspberry Pi be way too big as an ESC?

Re: DIY controllers

Are you asking about DIY remote controls or speed controls?

For Remote Controls:
- OpenTX is a very capable firmware to start out with. (https://www.open-tx.org/)
-- It has compatiabilty for an Arduino Mega 2560 board
-- Or check out these other options https://www.open-tx.org/radios.html

- For pistol grip, the GT3B/GT3C use a STM8S microcontroller that's not too hard to work with
-- You can start out with the psx 0.6.1 firmware https://github.com/semerad/gt3b

For Speed Controls
- Check out the Vedder ESC (Benjamin's robotics | A site about some of my projects, some tutorials and anything else I feel like publishing)
- Texas Instruments also make Motor Speed Control Dev Kits (Piccolo Entry Performance MCUs | Design & development | C2000 Real-time Control MCUs | TI.com)
-- Rendering below is a speed controller I designed for a school project a few years ago that uses A TI launch pad.

Re: DIY controllers

I make my own stuff, speed controllers , receivers transmitters and becs. Have done for all my rc stuff for years. I put most of it online and open source.. I am too cheap to buy brand name things..

You can find at least a dozen of my more recent designs here
