Default Help with electronics

Semi new to RCs, had a Traxxas nitro 4-tec RTR years ago. Looking into building a scale crawler and narrowed it down to the Axial kits. Electronics are not my thing, I definitely want to build the kit but want to use “cheaper” electronics. I’m ok with the stuff that comes in the RTRs...can y’all point me in the right direction?

Start with a brushed setup

Hobbywing 1080 ESC
Holmes Hobbies sealed can motor (550 or 540)
PowerHD servo
Radiolink or Flysky radio with receiver

This is all pretty high quality to price ratio. Not the cheapest crap but won't break at the first battery pack.

The speed of the motor is up to you. 550 21T (fast) or 27T (slower) is my favorite.

Axial's AE series ESCs and their brushed motors aren't bad and are a reasonably affordable starting point. For a servo, and I cannot stress this enough, do not cheap out. You'll just strip a cheap servo and end up replacing it, ultimately spending more than a decent servo in the first place. Get something high torque with all metal gears from a major supplier. I run a Savox which I like but I see a lot of people here rave Holmes hobbies servos as well. A decent servo is going to run you 80 or 100. Let me say it again, don't cheap out. A cheap servo in a 1/10 scale truck is gust lighting your money on fire. One thing about nicer servos is that you usually also need a bec if your ESC doesn't have one integrated (AE series doesn't).

I'd definitely recommend a Hobbywing 1080 ESC and a Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport motor. Best ~$60 you can spend for a combo.
I have been very happy with the "budget" servos from Amazon, they are 20-25kg and range between about $16-$30.

Great choices. Im running that in my wifes truck. This is all budget friendly but not prone to failure.

1080 about $40
Holmes motor $25.
23kg Power HD about $40 ( i will differ here (EcoPowerWP120 $70.)
Flysky GT3B not hacked $35.00 3 channels w/rx

Im actually running the power HD in this rig, the WP120 in another

All this stuff.

My favorite cheap servo is still the Tower Pro MG958 (and I have all the popular cheap servos: PowerHD, Tower Pro, Solar, JX, DS/Whatever brand from Amazon). It makes less noise than the Power HD servos I have used, has less gear slop than the popular DS3218s, has plenty of torque for a 1.9 tire truck, and only costs $12.
