| Brush life expectancy
I'm still ramping up on my electric motor knowledge. One thing I ran across is the maintenance of replacing brushes. What I'm wondering is how long do they typically last? I'm concerned because I've seen some crazy numbers thrown out there (20 minutes!?). My application is a TRX-4 and I'm upgrading to a HH Torquemaster Expert 550 21T on 3S. Mostly trail/bashing, no serious crawling. What can I expect? Thanks! |

LOL if your TRX-4 burns brushes in 20 minutes you are doing something seriously wrong. That motor should easily last a year with trail speeds. Obviously that depends on your usage as well. Don't sweat it. |

Thanks, I was almost regretting not going brushless. I don't mind replacing brushes as long as it not every 2-3 runs. Sounds like I'll be GTG! |

I have at least a dozen brushed motors and have run some for years without having to replace a brush, though I do spread the usage out between all of my rigs rather than focusing one 1 or 2. Brushes lasting 20 minutes is an extreme and this would involve running brushed in a basher or something seeing full throttle all the time. With crawlers this will never happen in 20 minutes. I'd just grab some spare brushes so you have them on hand but dont worry too much about needing them right away. Also just one side note if you haven't ordered the motor yet consider the Crawlmaster version, its a 5 slot and hands down the best 550 motor I've ran to date. Unless your goal is torque. 5 slots are Holmes Hobbies specialty so if you want to sample their special sauce consider trying the 5 slots. Last edited by HumboldtEF; 10-03-2019 at 01:18 PM. |

I've seen people kill them in 20. Dont run through water and go hill climbing in second gear and you will be fine. I get 50 to 100 hours from most though. |

I have never upgraded a brushed motor in the 3 years I have been crawling. They either last a long time or I get the upgrade bug too soon... Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |
