In all seriousness, has anyone had success using a motor guard as a sound damper? I tried some off the wall stuff in an attempt to silence my Revolver, even if only a little, but they all failed. I kinda just gave up and accepted that it is what it is... but my next attempt was going to be building a small enclosure around the motor that was lined with Dynamat, using the same idea with a motor guard (and capping off the end) would be a lot easier to execute. Think it'd help? Even just a little?

What you should look into is acoustic sound dampening foam, although I don't know if they make them thin enough for a motor cover. Actually what might work is Silverstone Acoustic sound dampening foam. It won't completely get rid of the sound, but it might help dampen it. I used this foam for modding my planar magnetic headphones in the earcups.

Giggle-worthy vid... And I have one of those motor guards. Must install Revolver in TRX-4 Defender tout-suite, my only 2-spd rig... (I use Auralex Acoustic foam wedges under my KRK Rokit6 G2 studio monitors on either side of my gaming monitor) |

The best way to reduce the sound is to remove any vibration conductive material touching the motor. Running this in the vaccume of space should significantly reduce the sound output. Trying to isolate and incase the motor will also trap the heat, something to consider. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk Last edited by Voodoobrew; 10-17-2019 at 08:46 PM.

There must have been some time passed laughing for someone to come up with that video. Makes me want to buy one so I can at least know what it sounds like. I just keep hearing about it but have never actually heard it ridiculous

I guess I was assuming that he was going to use dynamat on the inside of the enclosure he'd encase the motor with... which I don't think would work. If he layered it on the outside of the enclosure maybe? I was thinking using that foam to put inside the enclosure so it acts like a recording studio.

this video is pure gold. The best way to deal with the sound from an outrunner is to get over it. They rule. |
