Default Breaking wires

OK I searched the forums trying to find a previous post on this question and could not find any entries which I assume is because I did not use the right search words, as I am sure others have had this issue or asked this question.

So my problem is this, I have a SCX10ii and the wire on the stock motor broke and the motor burnt out, so I replaced the motor with a Holmes Hobby motor and decided to tidy up the wiring in the truck and tied the ESC wires and the motor wires together to lessen any movement. On a recent vehicle check I noticed that one of the motor wires has a few broken strands so I need to cut back the wire and resolder the connection which is not an issue. My question is did tying the wires together add more weight to the wires and thus create the wire to start breaking? Would I have been better to leave the motor wires free of any anchor point? Has anyone else had this issue and what is the best way to secure and protect wires?

You want a little play in the wires. When they crash stuff twists bends and shifts. Could have been a bad joint from the start too.

When you say weight, I'm tinking you mean tension.

Hi Voodoobrew we seem to be touching base on several issues here, (see my SCX10ii Steering post). Yes I think your right tension is a better term than weight. the solder joint is solid, it is the wire just outside the solder joint that is breaking so I suppose one is to conclude that the wire plus casing is solid, the wire on the solder joint is solid and the weak point is that fraction of an inch of wire in the middle. It must be a movement issue surely? Which is why I decided to bind the wires into a harness thinking it would reduce that movement. I am thinking that a wire track or a solid frame connection might be a way to isolate the wires from the movement within the truck?

I usually zip tie my motor wires to the frame, or other solid place. A friend had the same issue and a single zip tie did the trick after a solid soldering job. I suspect the motor wires bouncing as you drive over uneven terrain causes the the copper strands to fatigue and eventually give way.

You can use larger wire too. I get the 12g with silicone insulation.

Keep them from bouncing, tie em down. Probably cheap wire too, if it's from the stock motor.

Don't know if I saw this somewhere or if it was just something I decided to do on my own. If the motor has "tabs" the wires solder to, I put shrink tube over the "tabs" and wire. The shrink tube length is about 1/4" up past the end of the wire covering. Been doing that for years. Might help . . . . . . . . .
