Savox Servo Question
 

I have a Savox 1256tg servo that I can pull out of another truck to install into my TRX 4 Sport. I will be using SSD 1.9 steel wheels with pitbull Berserker 4.35" tires. The Savox puts out 277 oz of torque at 6v.

Is this enough torque for those wheels and tires?

yeah itll turn them, but it would be better to have a servo around 400 oz/in or higher in my opinion.

It's only temporary until I can get a permanent servo for the trx4. The servo is coming out of my monster truck that is out of commission at the moment with a broken motor shaft. When I have the extra cash to get the servo, then the Savox is going back into the monster truck.

I just want to get the trx4 up and running.

Midwest nailed it. It’ll get the truck up n runnin, but it’s a tad on the weak side.

I'll look and see what is available in the 400 + ounce range. Can probably pick it up next month. My LHS sells Savox and hitec.. I'll probably go with the Savox as it has a 25t.

Do I need to use the aluminum Servo horn from Traxxas that came with the unassembled kit? I know that it's a 25t.

You can use any brand horn you want. Just make sure it has the same number of teeth, and that the hole-to-hole length is the same. Personally, I always go with aluminum horns, and clamping whenever possible.

I got to thinking this morning about the servo that is in my wraith that I never drive anymore. It's a Hitec HS 7950tg. 403oz @ 6v. I'll just have to get a longer Servo horn for it as the one that is in it is quite short.

I think The Wraith is going to lose its servo. LOL

Hitec 7950 are great just remeber there not waterproof factory. I have a savox 1210sg in my trx4 with 1.9 ssd steel wheels and 4.19 inch rc4wd goodyear mtrs and it turns those all day no issue at 7.4 volts and that's making 400 oz plu at 7.4 amd waterproof

I've always been curious about something though, does running a servo on 7.4v drain the battery any quicker than at 6v?

Yes - you don't get something for nothing :) Now whether it is a noticeable difference in drive time... no clue!

It would make sense that there would be a reduction in drive time. I would guess a difference of maybe 3-8 minutes depending how aggressive you are in your steering. Having your tires bound up large amounts during the run will pull a lot more current as compared to a flat hiking trail. My point is that the terrain and how you drive will change your run time more than your servo voltage even though it does contribute to the cause.;-)

Would it drain the battery faster? Run a crawler on a higher voltage you get longer run times. Run a servo on higher voltage you get less run time?

The difference in run time between the stock TRX4 servo that came in my original truck and the Savox 1230SG at 7.4v that I run now was not noticeable.

Volt times Amperage equals Power so upping the voltage will require less amperage to get the same power. Less amperage means less heat and thinner cables.

So therefor, if you need more power it’s best to up the voltage. Like JRH always says: “volt up, gear down”
