Default What is the best crawler servo under $100?

I’m in the market for a new steering servo for my TRX4 Sport. I’ve added steel Gmade SR beadlocks with Proline Krawler with Dual Stage foam so I’d like to get something with 400oz/in either at 6v or achievable at 7.4v. I’m running the HW1080 and a Flysky receiver so should be fine.

I’ve looked at the Savox 1210sg and 1270tg both are $80-$90. Both are over 400oz/in at 7.4v

Is one of these the best option? Which one?

Are there others I should consider? The new Holmes looks like it’s optimal voltage needs a 3S or 4S power source so I’m not considering it for now.

I would step up to 3s and use as Holmes plugged directly in the battery.

The 1080 can handle it and the TRX4 has a 550 21T motor which is more than fine on 3s.

Just reduce the pinion if it's too fast.

Im not running Traxxas electronics. I’m running a HW1080 and Holmes Trailmaster Sport 550 27T. I’m currently running the Annimos 20kg servo which was supposed to be over 300oz/in at 7.4v but it’s not close to that according to tests and reviews recently.

Even more reasons to make the switch to 3s and never look back!

Do you think I’d need an external BEC to run this at 7.4v with my HW1080?

Out of those three I'd take the Savox, but it's not one I'd recommend. The Savox 1230 has more torque. It's just not "waterproof" but you can do that yourself. I don't waterproof my servos nor worry about getting them wet. I've only killed one from water and that was when I lost my Ascender off of a rock ledge above a stream and submarined it.

Avoid the Reefs. From everything I can tell it's just a Chinese servo with an inflated price.

The ProModeler is a joke on 6V and the owner is a dickhead if you reach out to him.

I agree with all but the last, You’re the only person that doesn’t get along with John.
My PM 420 is going strong still after 3 years, quiet and smooth at 7.4, Although I did run it at 6 to slow it down speed wise. For a 1.9 truck PM all the way.
For a 2.2, Savox 2290 at 8.4

It's not that I don't get along with him. It's that I contacted him to determine why my 470 won't turn the tires on my TRX-4, and maybe my wording sucked, but he gave me an obnoxious and unprofessional response. I've never received such a poor response from any company. He called me an idiot while hiding behind another customer. I mean what company in this world would respond to a customer with negative words from another customer? I'm still dumbfounded by his response. I don't think even the biggest fanboy would think his response is okay or justified.

I'm definitely not the only customer in the world that thinks the 470 isn't worth the money. There are a handful on this forum alone that have had similar experiences. If I'm going to spend another $100 on a servo it will be with something that works as claimed and has great customer service behind it.

There's a whole thread dedicated to it here What the newest cheap servo hotness?

I've been running the DSSERVO DS3235 for a few months now and it's great

I have the DS3218 and frankly I don’t trust their torque claims. The DS3218 (20kg Annimos) was supposed to be close to 300oz/in torque at 7.4v, but the two tests I’ve seen both RCReview and another it was under 200oz/in at 7.4v

Savox seems to be really dependable unless you aren’t delivering enough amps, but with my setup I don’t have more than one servo.

Also I did call Promodeler/Genesis Hobby and waiting on a call back.

I’d go for an MKS BLS550 again. I’m used to quieter servos but it has been performing very well in my vs4-10.

In regards to Savox, while I can't speak about the 1210SG, I can recommend the SB-2273SG, which I'm running in my TLR 8ight-XE. If it's powerful & fast enough for a 1/8 4WD off-road race buggy, it's good enough for your use. As for the Reef's & ProModeler servos, based on all the bad things I've been hearing about them (from multiple people), is say they're probably best to be avoided. I'd also suggest considering Hitec, as I've had great experiences with the for make years...first in helicopters, and more recently in my race vehicle & first Capra.
