hobbywing 1080 esc ruining axial/tactic recievers ?!?

So after 4 years my stock AE-5 finally gave up the magic smoke. I bought a hobbywing 1080 for my SCX10 and about 30 seconds into running it my RX died (as in fried). This was the original tactic radio and it's seen a lot of use so I wrote it off. I had another identical rx/tx in another truck I'm not using so I put that one in it. 30 seconds into a run that one fried too. I've got a traxxas RX/TX in it now and it seems okay so far.

This is an OG SCX10 that is fairly stock running 3S, motor is stock 27t and servo is a cheap 200oz I've been running for years. No external bec either. This is the set up I've been running for the last 4 years. I checked the program card and the internal BEC is set for 6V (if it had been on 7.2v this might make sense). I looked at the specs for the rx online and it's rated up to 7v so running them with 6v should not be frying them.

So I'm down 2 radio's because of this esc and I'm not too happy about it. I got it from an ebay seller and am contemplating what I should do. It just seems like the esc has a problem with some receivers.

Thoughts?

Check the voltage with a volt meter. A good 1080 will work fine with a tactic reciever, hundreds of people do it all the time.

Unfortunately I don't have a voltmeter. I did just try seeing if the 2nd tactic rx/tx would work with another esc but that damage seems to be done. I just get a flashing red light out of the rx. I tried re-binding it also, but no luck. I'll be giving the scx10 another outing is the snow tomorrow and hopefully the traxxas system will continue to play nice with the hobbywing 1080.

If it ate 2 rx's already, I wouldent feed it more. How much is this used esc going to cost you in the end?

Ask to borrow a volt meter.

Update:

It occurred to me (that my lipo checker/voltage alarm is a voltmeter (duh) ...

Anyways, checked it this morning and it says 6.04v at the rx plug, so it's not that.

I now have 3 battery packs run through it with the traxxas rx and that one is working just fine.

No idea why the esc ate both my tactic rx's. :???:

I have no clue either, I just know my tactics work fine with the hobbywing 1080, same with many others. Hobbywing 1080 is one of the first upgrades we do.

My 1080 seems to have eaten the throttle channel on 3 recievers. Even called hw just to see and they said yup, your throttle channels are broken. Still unsure thats the case, but ive kinda given up and just running the 1 super cheapo radio that somehow works. Never had a problem before, suddenly ive got 3 dead.
