HitecRCD TH7950MG replacement?
 

I've been using HitecRCD TH7950MG as steering servos in most my crawlers, but it's been discontinued. Yes I can buy another somewhere, but really like to get with the newer standard of 25T servo horn spline count. Been looking around for a new standard replacement, but nothing really grabs me, what y'all suggest?

The Holmes SHV500 is pretty much the only servo I spend good money on these days. The V3 has more torque than the 7950, beefy gears and pins, aluminum case, great customer support, and you get to eliminate the BEC.

I had used the HiTech 7950 for years in 5 or 6 different builds. Really bummed that it was discontinued, and my local Hobby Shop is not carrying too much Hi Tech anymore. I have put the Savox 1230 SG in my last two builds, I like them so far. $70 not to bad of a price."thumbsup" They are 25 T spline count.

Savox is larger than normal and I've seen lots of them (not necessarily that model) that were noisy, glitchy and died on the trail. How's the noise on that model?

HH SHV500V3 is innovative, but I've seen several of the V1 and V2 fail out on the trail, V3 is out of stock most places. Would love to lose the voltage regulator CCBEC though.

Hmmmmm wish Hitec made TH7950MG with 25T.

Some of the newer Hitec servos are 25 spline.

I've been replacing broken 7950's and 7954's with Promodeler 470's. Zero regrets. They've proven strong and durable. I'm hell on servos and the Promodeler 470 has earned my repeat business. Been buying them since they were a 420gen2. Up to 10 now. I also have a few Promodeler 630s that I can equally highly recommend.

Huge torque specs mean nothing without the durability to back it up. This is where I feel a lot of servos fall short. Meaning they boast alot of torque, but don't tolerate shock loads of smashing toy trucks into rocks.

Savox servos are annoying. But my Hitec HS-7954SH is much louder and more annoying than any Savox I've ever owned. It's obnoxious!

What are the specs of the servo you are trying to replace?


Amen! All servos should be 25T though.

That's been my Savox experience, I've not owned that particular Hitec, the others I've had have been pretty quiet.

Pretty pricey IMO for what it is - I am guessing because it is programmable which I wouldn't think you would need here.

Savox 1290 is nice. I would have said it's not too noisy but I was watching a comparison video the other day and yeah, I guess, it is? HH and ProM are both popular suggestions here too.

I've heard Hitecs are quiet, but that hasn't been my experience which is admittedly limited.

That looks like a nice servo. Savox 2290 would be comparable and it's known to be bullet proof. Seems a little quieter than most other Savox servos.

The Tekin servos are nice, but way too expensive for what they are.

My ProModeler sucks and I documented my experience with the customer service elsewhere.

Nearly all the failures on the V1 and V2s were related to the center pin bending, revisions were made and Holmes said the failure rates on the V2 were down to like 2% before they were discontinued for the V3. The V3 gears and pins are way stronger so the V2 failures should be eliminated from the newest generation.

Can't help with the out of stock part though.

The Holmes V3 would be my choice if you want to ditch the BEC

I really like the Protek 170TBL

The Savox 2290 is also solid

Can't recommend the Promodeler, I had one and it was awful.

Do you have personal experience with that Hitec?

What about the Protek 170BL? Have you abused that thing? That one is tempting.

I had the same experience with the PM. I'm going to throw a BEC on it at some point and see if that helps at all.

Never used the Hitec

Love the Proteks. I've been beating on mine for over two years as have most of my friends.

I ran a BEC at 8.4 on the Promodeler and it still didn't do anything worth a damn.

Yeah, buddy has had nothing but mediocre or less with several Pro-Modeler servos in crawlers, even sent in to them and they said it was just dandy. :)



Interesting how the ProTek stuff has such hit and miss quality-wise.

Interesting but getting close to price of good name brand servo with a real warranty, any experience wtih these?

Awesome. Please let us know how you like that servo when you get it. I especially want to know if it's quiet.

More and more unhappy PM owners seem to be crawling out of the woodwork. I wish this had happened before I bought mine. Is your buddy running an external BEC on them? I haven't tried that yet, but I'm going to do just that.

LOL I don't blame you. All servos should move to 25T.
