Default Mamba X and Puller Pro

About to hit buy on a new ESC and Motor combo for my SCX 102 build. JRH recommended the 2700kv motor to me last night during Harley's live build. Still kinda thinking about the 3300kv though. I just read a comment about avoiding the CC with a Puller Pro. anyone have any good reason to avoid this combo? Also, thoughts on the 2700 vs. the 3300? It will not be a dedicated crawler, more of a trail rig with some crawling, bashing thrown in for funzies. What say the RCC brain trust?

*ETA: Looking at the Stubby as the standards are out of stock except the 4500kv. I have the SCX102 kit version with stock gearing, aluminum bumpers and a partial 3d printed interior. So far. 2s and 3s only. No plans to volt up to 4s.

Yeah guess I should have specified. Stubby. The standards are OOS except for 4500kv. If I was going this route, I would just yank the HW set-up out of my Yeti (which was my original plan) which is a 4600kv IIRC. Maybe it's because of the noise?

The Mamba X works great with the Puller Pro. Use Castle Link to take advantage of it's adjustability. I too would go with the 2700. It'll be easier to increase the pinion size to get your desired speed than trying to decrease pinion size if the 3300 was faster than you want. I think the kit trans can mesh down to an 11T and the RTR a 9T pinion if I recall.

With the 3300, if it's too fast with the smallest pinion, you could limit its top end with the Mamba X Castle link software too...or install low speed gears if it's the kit.

Just dropped a 2700 stubby in my SCX10iii, I’m running a straight 2700 in my SCX10ii...... can’t really feel any difference between them, I did have to drop pinions down though to creep on both, can’t see any need for more Kv

Mike, what is the main type of driving you do with these trucks? Crawling or trailing? What type of speed are you getting? Not necessarily in mph but, are they fairly fast or...

You should take John's advice. He's literally an expert. Nobody has more experience with his motors than he does. He also likes some speed. It's not like he chooses motors that are too show. Lastly, he's not going to recommend something he thinks you won't like. He wants you to be satisfied so that he gets as many satisfied costumers as possible while simultaneously keeping returns to a minimum.

Yeah, I know. I'm just always second guessing myself. I was really more concerned with the comment about the Mamba with the PP. I have a relic Mamba with an OG Holmes outrunner in my TRX4. It works well but, the noise drives me crazy sometimes. If all else fails, I can just pick up a 1080 and use one of the Holmes brushed motors I have.

The Mamba X and Puller Pro work great together. The person that said otherwise either had a one off issue that doesn't affect others or they simply don't know what they're talking about.

The Revolver/outrunner motor is obnoxiously loud. That's not going to change much with any ESC. The Puller Pro isn't loud with any ESC.

Creeping....... I went with the 2700 vs 3500 to slow it down a bit. John swears by the PP3500, I’ve got that in a 2.2 Wraith.... it’s a monster! Way too much geared down. I have 3, 2700’s 2 regular and one stubby, it’s my favorite on 3s. I’m also running the single speed locked in low on Bud

I don't know why anyone would question JRHs ESC/Motor recommendations. There is literally no one more qualified to give this kind of advise!

I agree 100%!! I've got a Mamba X with a 3500 PP in my Enduro, the same combo about to go in my VS4-10 Ultra and use a Mamba X Micro with a stubby 2200 PP in my Capra.

Not really questioning his recommendation, like I said, second guessing myself. Also, I never asked John about the ESC as the Mamba X was already my choice.

You say that then state you go with the 3500. The comment about the X with a PP was not given any reason why the statement was made. I was just asking to see if anyone might know why the claim might be made. As I posted above, order has been placed for the X and 2700kv Stubby.

I think you will be very pleased. I wished I had gone with the 2700kv stubby in my Capra, but the 2200kv does just fine...

I was in your shoes a few weeks ago. Wanted a standard size 2700kv, but they were out of stock. Ended up with a 3300kv V2 PP stubby in my bomber and I love it. I started out with a 2200kv standard V2 PP but wanted more wheelspeed for the bomber, so the 2200 will be going on my TRX4 rebuild.

Anyways you’ll love your 2700 stubby.

Yep, damn COVID virus is jacking up his inventory from being restocked. I think once JRH gets his inventory, it's going to sell out again.
