Lipo suggestions Hey guys, I'm looking for my 1st set of Lipos for my TRX4 w/ 2 spd transmission. It has a Hobbywing XERUN AXE540 ESC w/ 1200kv motor. I have some Gens Ace Lipos for my race buggy and have been satisfied so far. What form factor will fit? 2s or 3s? C or mAH ratings? Thanks |
Re: Lipo suggestions Pretty much any standard sized lipo will work, including the lipos you already have. If you are going to buy new ones, recommend 3S with at least 4000mha. Something like this guy... https://www.smc-racing.net/index.php...product_id=463 |
Re: Lipo suggestions You definitely want 3S, IMO...C rating is somewhat trivial in a low speed crawler. I've been using Floureons and these with good results. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I went from 4000 and 5000 mAh packs to slightly smaller ones when I started storage charging religiously like I always should have. A 2800 or 3000 mAh pack will trail run about 2.5 hours in my rigs, and they're much faster to balance charge and storage charge than my bigger packs. |
Re: Lipo suggestions I've also used the GoldBat batteries and had no issues at all. I run 2S. And I've read many others here using them with no issues. They're a great value - saves you money for other goodies "thumbsup" But I've been backwards - I started with 5200 mAh and last one I bought was 7400 mAh. I added a light bar and she really sucks down the juice! I was getting 2+ hours on 5000 mAh but that light bar changed that to 45 mins! PS - I've since added remote switch to light bar so I can use when needed |
Re: Lipo suggestions I'll definitely check out both of those! I think I want stick with 3s, which I don't currently have any of. I have some 2200mAH Gens Ace 2s for my Latrax Rally which I will use temporarily. The TRX4 kits not all the way complete to be honest, I haven't decided want I want to do for the body yet. Maybe there's a nice one on the marketplace when I get there.. I have a DBXL-E 2.0 and I've had problems with the Power Hobby batteries. The 5200mAH 4s 50C I got with the rig don't cut it. They over discharged even though I have the "medium" LVC setting in my ESC. The 8000mAh 100C packs (purchased right after) I got do better, but they still get too warm for my liking. Good "C" rating batteries are expensive and hard to come by apparently! I have a Venom 4 port charger and I'm very strict with my balance charging, discharging, storage, lipo bags and etc. Safety I guess, I've seen too many videos of small Lipos cause major carnage! |
Re: Lipo suggestions Yep, C ratings are a childish approach and insulting. The BEST batteries you can buy are the Fantom Octane Pro drag racing 3s packs. They come in 4000 & 5000mAh and are A TRUE 100-ish C rating. They’ll let you run the truck into the ground and not warm up... they are absolute BEASTS for battery packs! However, they weigh a lot for a crawler pack at 326 grams with an XT60 carefully soldered onto those 8-gauge wires. My 5000 was $130 without the connector. So the BEST battery that BALANCES performance, runtime, and weight for a crawler is now the Gens Ace Adventure 3600mAh 3s pack. It has the advantage of being High Voltage, so it gives you the volts deeper into the discharge cycle. It is also lighter than a normal Lipo at the same mAh rating. These packs are exactly 215 grams with XT60 preinstalled for about $55. These are 50C and a perfect-sized form factor. |
Re: Lipo suggestions I'll second the Goldbat batteries mention... i use both the 2s and 3s versions. |

Even the one 2200mAh 3S battery didn't fit in the smaller indentation in the tray. Oh well, I discovered it had a bad cell today so I discharged/killed it off to recycle it. Quote:
I've been away from cars for a while. Is this just a standard battery size for rc cars? Is it some ROAR-spec'd size? |
Re: Lipo suggestions I use these https://hobbyking.com/en_us/zippy-co...en_us_products they fit perfect. Run time approx 90min up to 3h https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...621f59e6b3.jpg and these should fit also nicely https://www.amainhobbies.com/protek-...116-20/p991752 https://www.amainhobbies.com/gens-ac...b7665/p1147356 |
