| Small, light 4s capable BRUSHED ESC
Does anyone know of or can recommend a small, light brushed ESC capable of operating on 4S?

Holmes Hobbies BR mini will handle 6s and is programmable with a castle programmer. I've had my castle creations sidewinder micro and mamba micro pro on 4s in the past, not sure if that's still possible on the newer sidewinder Micro 2 and Mamba micro X Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk |

I've been wondering if the micro X would put up with 4S, ratings are usually on the safe side of things. I wonder what the test would be for this, run it and check temps? I'm really not sure. BR mini is all that comes to mind for me too, its a de-cased BR-XL. The regular BR-XL isn't all that small but if you need the extra cooling it may be worth a look too. |

Ok thanks Robert. I just tested this and the Micro X will not start up, I just had to check. |

The old FXR with a cap upgrade and external BEC was a setup for 4s back in the day wasn't it? However Like the older castle micro , unless you have one or get a good deal for a used one you're probably better of getting a Holmes Mini and running it under rated Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk |

Thanks for the info. It looks like the BR Mini is the only viable option. Unfortunately, it's currently out of stock. Just in case you're trolling through this thread, any idea when you'll have these back in stock Mr. Holmes?

I don't think the FXR could do 4S. Quote:

You could use 4s on a Tekin FXR with a cap mod, again not worth it in this case unless you already have one. There are other threads, but this came up. tekin 4s mod Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk |

Sorry, I misread your post. Missed the upgrade part. Tekin discontinued the FXR series sadly. So, like you said, it's only a good mod for those that already have them. | |

| Re: Small, light 4s capable BRUSHED ESC https://youtu.be/9fyyrZQj2Io ^^^^^^^ My xl5 esc runs 4s. That is the only test I've done. It's the older big heatsink style. A few have told me to run a Bec just in case, I have not grabbed one yet. It's big, but if you remove the case and coat it up, I'd bet it would get a bunch smaller. It's not that small, but the HobbyWing WP0880 is 4S capable. Size: 45.9*34.7*26.5mm Fwd Cont. / Peak: 80A /400A BEC: 6V/4A (Switch Mode) LED Program Box sold separately Adjustable 1K/2K/4K/8K/16K PWM Frequency 4S LiPo /12S NiMH: ≥ 24T or RPM<15000@7.4V (540, 550 Size Motors) ...less than $34 |

I stripped all the unnecessary crap off a pair of WP880's and got them down to 40.5g each (with wires for a single motor, no heat sink.) They're still big compared to an FXR/BXR or BRmini, but not AE5 big, and it happily runs 4s. Decent BEC to boot. Heck, for that matter, I used to run 4s through my AE2 (and I've read of others getting away with 6s, I never tried) and I'm sure you could at least partially de-case one of those? I know that "small" and "light" are relative, so what are your goals and limitations?
