Drag Brake Help

I have a 6.4lb Capra I just built. HH 16t Crawlmaster Pro and a HW 1080. All the settings on the 1080 are for maximum drag brake but it still won't hold the truck on a steep hill. I'm fairly new to crawling so still trying to learn.

Any suggestions on what I can do fix it? Better ESC?

I have a HW Axe 550 on my 8.5lb TRX and if the tires will hold then the brake will hold so I'm pretty spoiled.

Possibly your throttle trim setting?.? I’d say make sure it’s zeroed.

THe HW 1080 is a fine esc, but it doesn't have an active drag brake. Gearing down may help, but it will reduce your top speed. A BRXL esc from Holmes has an active drag brake which should allow your rig to stay put on steeper descents, but it is much more expensive than the 1080.

Yeah, that's probably all it is. I think my other truck has spoiled me. Maybe it's time to upgrade it. I just had the 1080 laying around and figured I would put it to good use.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

Of course there aren't any BRXL's to be found on the internets. Apparently they are in short supply. grrrrr

That's because the BRXL is basically old technology now. It's been surpassed by the Mamba X now. Active drag break, 8amp bec, waterproof, even JRH says the Mamba is better than the current BRXL (apparently there may be a new BRXL someday but that's not happening anytime soon).

This! My 1080 won't hold jack.... But fine on some older scalers, adds some real driving dynamic to it..:lmao:"thumbsup"
