Default New Reedy Brushed ESC - SC480X

Reedy has a new brushed ESC, the features are fairly standard (80A rating, dual light outputs, small footprint, etc.) but the 5A 7.4V BEC stands out for a $22 ESC. An optional programming card is an extra $12 to change things like cutoff voltage and drag brake.

I will pick one up to try out because why not?

Price is definitely right. A little bummer that the card is more than half the price of the esc but the esc is so cheap it’s hard to be upset about.

Supposedly it’s similar to the surpass esc (same oem) but this one has the dual light outputs and is actually cheaper.

This card might work... not a whole lot cheaper though

I'm on the fence about the card.

Yeah it is a lot compared to the price of the ESC but you only have to buy it once regardless of how many ESCs you end up buying. I think I prefer that to the dozen or so HW cards floating around my workshop because you can't get a 1080 without the card.

Haha true story there. I have more program cards than 1080 ESC’s somehow now.

Like I said where this was posted. It's a perfect candidate to use instead of the HW 1060, for loaner rigs, or low budget rigs. I have 1080's in almost everything, but I do have a few rigs that I loan out that really only need something like this.

So BEC is 7.4V only, no way to program it to 6V?

They look basically the same as the china gear I run in a couple of my rigs. One is an OG Honcho and the other a slow scaler. I got them as a combo from Banggood a year or so back. So far so good but they don’t get any substantial run time.

Definitely looks like a relabeled generic China ESC

Interestingly, RC4WD has also just released a new ESC - the Outcry Extreme Speed Controller ESC w/ Program Card - big time 8A BEC rating!

BEC Output Voltage-Current: 6V / 7.4V @ 8A
Cont. / Peak Current : 80A / 400A
Battery Plug: XT60

I honestly wouldn't put it past rc4wd to have just changed the bec on paper and left it completely alone physically.

Kind of strange there is no option to switch between 6.0 and 7.4 volts on the bec.

I'm sure it is the same OEM but even if they were identical, the Reedy will have greater local availability and support from a US based company for essentially the same price. Buying a $22 ESC from a recognizable RC brand shipped from the US versus buying comparable $23 ESC from a no-name company that ships from China is going to be no contest for the average buyer.

Especially the way things are now. There is no telling if and when it would show from China. Last year it may have been 3 weeks and even then customer support was sketchy.

From China now? More like 6-8 weeks. My fellow RC plane guys order from Banggood all the time.

So this reedy ESC is different from the one in the RTR element enduro/trailwaker/trailrunner?
I rather like the ESC that came with mine and a controller card would be cool.

Oh yeah just looked on the enduro site and the rtr has one called the sc400x so its probably not compatible with the programmer card. Dernit.
Gonna have to put my nose in the manual again, could have sworn it has some parameter adjustments...

I got myself one of the surpass 80a esc’s to see if it can replace the 1060 in my d90.

The 1060 with external bec went back in the next day... the surpass got given away... felt exactly like those racestar esc’s. And noisy as hell. The 1060 RTR ripoffs even feel like it has more startup resolution than the surpass.

And i could use the racestar card on the surpass. Just could not get it to work the way i like. The guy that got it off me has it in his drawer next to his 1040 rtr esc’s
