| Tips for making sure you turn your Tx off....
Any insight or helpful tips on what you do you make sure you turned off your transmitter? I killed the batteries in my TRX Tx twice since I got it. My Capra radio has the "ON" indicator light on the top, the TRX4 light is on the side and apparently not as easily noticeable. Most of my airplane radios will beep and some even shut themselves down if you forget. I think what does it is the several steps it takes to get the body off to just get to the battery plug. Maybe I should just turn off the Tx, and then worry about powering down the receiver. I know it's simple but apparently I'm a sub-simpleton. LOL |

You just have to pay attention to what your doing. I left my TRX4 transmitter on once and after that I check specifically that it's off before setting it on the shelf.

| Re: Tips for making sure you turn your Tx off.... Not sure if this fits the OP's thread intentions but regardless, ^^^ this cannot be stressed enough... especially when I see mention of the Capra. I've never had an issue with any of my other rigs when I've forgotten to turn the transmitter on first ( or off last) but with my Capra, I connected the battery while the transmitter was off and the Capra instantly took off. Luckily my buddy was there to catch it as it was heading towards a tree but yeah... always remember to turn on the transmitter first and turn it off last.

All my transmitters( Futaba, FlySky, Traxxas all have Fail Safe . I’ve always bench tested for it. I started in go fast bashing, never lost a car, but saw a few that went crazy when control was lost, always use FS. Hang up and Drive

Unfortunately most people don't set up Fail Safe, even available. Don't know why. It's there to use! My primary is airplanes. That fast spinning prop on a brushless motor provides a lot of business for the ER!!!! |

I have fail safe on all my rigs. I do accidentally leave my DX5 Rugged on all the time, but it beeps like crazy until I turn it off. Something about the power switch; it doesn't turn off as easily as it should. |

It is a common mistake we all make, and continue to make. The real trick here is to just carry spare cells incase you booboo and leave it on. One of the nice features on my Spektrum radios is that they go into spastic vibrating fits when they are left on and no controls are touched after about 10 minutes or so.

| Re: Tips for making sure you turn your Tx off.... I don't think any manufacturer will do that because of potential safety problems. The Tx doesn't know if your Rx is armed. For example, your vehicle is on and your Tx is on. It's lunch time and you run off to the BBQ and eat. Well after 5-10 minutes the Tx shuts off. Now your vehicle decides to run away. Take it to the extreme and use an airplane as an example rather than a land based vehicle. BAD things can happen really fast with an airplane! They want you to conscientiously be the one to turn it off as, hopefully, you are aware of the total situation (that your Rx is still armed). |

I have considered adding something on top of the indicator led or lens that could diffuse the light and bring the light farther outside of the case so to speak. You can only see this indicator light from the front of the remote so it seems like it could help to have the light more visable. Though I make a habit of unplugging the battery then switching off the radio so I never followed through. |

I did it once, and it was on for days since I was away for days. Ever since then I just remember, truck off, radio off. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

The fear of smoking a direct powered servo due to not unplugging everything when done keeps me in line. Plus the mamba x and Gt5 squawk at me if not used for a bit. I feel this is an area that having an absolute shutdown routine is extremely important. |

Thanks all! I'm good at unplugging the rig battery, just turning off the transmitter. I was at an RC funfly on Sunday and I walked by one of my friends transmitters that was beeping and vibrating as it was left on. Reminded me again that that would be a nice feature..... I think I'm going to change were I set my transmitters so the lights are at an angle I can see better if I ever forget again. |

I've had issues with this is in the past and what worked for me was making it a part of a system - every time I unplug a battery in a rig, I immediately turn of the Tx as well

Put stickers/label the vehicle battery with a reminder to turn Tx off. As long as you dont store your batteries in your trucks.

Buy rechargeable AA batteries, the newer ones have better shelf discharge rates, and then it does not matter. __________________________ Handy gearing spreadsheet |
