Default JR xr3 dig?

I have a shaft drive dig setup, and a jr xr3 tx, and This transmitter has a 3 position, 3rd channel switch.

From what I have gathered from the manual, the switch is always self centering, so in order to dig, I will have to hold the switch while I steer and throttle.

How can I make the switch stay in the outer positions without having to hold it there?

Thanks -Brian

The xr3 is not capable of 3 positions.

There are 4 ways to use the third channel but it is limited to either 2 positions, mixed with another channel or 125 positions left and 125 positions rigtht.

What you are looking for is the 2P setting. (Locked or unlocked)

1.) Hold down the "Scroll" and the "Channel" button while turning the power on.

2.) Hit "scroll" button 3 times to bring up the Aux channel.

3.) Hit "Increase" Till the display says 2P.

4.) Now Hit "Scroll one more time. This is the screen to select where you want the control iof the 3rd channel to be.

"Eb" is emergency brakes setting. ( Grip button A will control 3rd channel.)

"LA" is for lap times on button "C"

"2P" uses the "C" button to toggle the third channel between the two positions.

I use "Eb" because then I know, when I pull back on grip button "A" it will lock the rear. If I push it forward, it lock it in fourwheel.

With "2P"....unless you pay close attention ,or your dig works without flaw, you will have to make sure it is doing what you want it to.

I like knowing when I pull back on that grip lever, its going to do what I want it to.

Hope this helps.

Kinda sucks about the XR3 not having more control over that 3rd channel.

If you know the nature of the beast you can be better prepaired to make it work for what you want!

3 channels wasn't enough so I added 2 more AM channels to my XR3.

I'm not help on this but I figured I'd chime in on some confusion about the XR3.

The JR XR3i is the newer version and only has a 2-position 3rd channel. But the older version is the XR3 and has a 3-position switch. Just sold mine as I don't use rear steer...

no problem. Before I bought that radio, I read a million posts that all mentioned the XR3, but some had 2-position, others had 3-position and I couldn't figure out how that could be until I came across a post from Microgoat which clued me in that there was two different flavors.

The same is apparently true with the Spektrum radios. The DX3 and the DX3.0 have a 3P and 2P switch, respectively.

There is no way to make the switch stay in the + or - position on the radio. But you can set up the dig system so that you don't have to hold the switch all the time.

I have dig setup on my tlt so that in 4wd I don't have to do anything. When I unlock the driveshaft I have to hold the rocker switch to the left. Then to lock the shaft back in place I can hold the switch to the right. Once locked in, I don't have to hold the switch because there is a little bit of play in my setup. I could just let the servo self center and it would lock the shaft back in place, but I wanted to be sure it was all the way in. On the endpoint adjustments I dial down the amount of throw the 3rd channel switch has in the + direction (shaft locked in 4wd), so that the servo stops pushing once the shaft is in place.

I got it working. I set it up with springs, so I have play.

Click the image to open in full size.

with the third channel in the middle (nuetral) position, the servo is all the way forward, with the rear driveshaft engaged.

I set it up like a 2 position switch by eliminating all of the travel in one direction in the transmitter. when I hold the 3rd channel switch, the servo shifts rearward, and engages my dig setup with the locking pins.

It works on the bench, Now its time to real world test it.
