Default Copperhead cutting out

Anybody else having issues with their Copperhead cutting out?

If so is there a fix?

I run my Copperhead several times a week and it has been flawless. Have you contacted CC yet about it?

Have you removed the switch?

Bad switches have been the cause of all sorts of Castle ESC problems since the dawn of time.

I have had mine cut out, switch was eliminated before it was ever run. It hasn't cut out while moving it has just stopped after I stop for a sec and try to continue driving, always right after powering it up and only once per pack. After that happens I've been able to run until my battery hits LVC without any more cutting out.

I thought powering it down and back up solves it though last time it happened it just started working again on its own.

The ESC isn't beeping like its lost connection to the radio or motor.

Servo is powered directly off the battery so its not a brown out.

@MOguy can you describe whats happening to yours? You really havent said when it happens and what exactly happens.

I gave up on it and sending it back. I have rebound, recalibrated, changed trim, travel... AND did it all over again with the Castle tech rep.

I got a bad one.

Running along perfect and the motor just stops. Switch removed.

I have a direct power servo, even if not the BEC on the Copperhead should run in 1/10 servo and other accessories without issue.

I but the SW4 back in and everything is fine.

I’m having the same issue on my Copperhead 10. Just randomly stops working, no lights on the esc. When I pick up the crawler and just drop it from a few inches off the ground the ESC comes back on. I’m also running direct powered servo.

This is my 2nd Copperhead, my 1st one is still working flawlessly. Ive tried switching out sensor wires and also different motors but the issue has not gone away. This happened from the very first run and usually once or twice over the duration of each run. Pretty annoying and will probably have to contact Castle.

I don’t believe it’s the power switch since when the esc comes back on from jolt of dropping the crawler it doesn’t cycle through the beeps like it would when you power it off and on. The esc yellow light just comes back on with no sounds and throttle works as it should. Maybe you guys know something I don’t know but I figured if its a faulty power switch then when the ESC comes back on it would cycle through the beeps.

I got mine back from warranty and it seems to be fine. They said there was a wrong setting. Not sure what it was.

i had a mamba monster x that would randomly cut out it turned out it was a bad bullet connector that for some reason would loose conection till i wiggled the wires or gave it a kick and then it was fine for a while

Mine was something in the setting or so they said. I placed my SW4 back in and no issues. It seems to be fine now, I did have it cut out again but is was low voltage but no warning. I have to check again to make sure the cut off is set in the ESC.

I don’t believe it’s a bad XT60 plug or cold solder joint at the plug since the receiver is still powered on and that power is coming from the ESC but for some reason the ESC itself doesn’t have throttle. The yellow/green/red LED on the Copperhead was not lit when throttle was lost.

I called Castle support and they said to try updating the firmware even if the ESC shows the latest one already and if that doesn’t work try cutting the on/off power switch off and soldering the wires together so that the ESC powers up as soon as the battery is connected. So I’ll try those 2 things and see.

The power never goes out, it never resets. The ESC with just be a steady green or red light. Steering still works, so does the winch. My steering is direct power but my winch is powered through the receiver, it is still sending power to the receiver The Castle tech says it is low voltage spike (or unspike?) so it turns off to protect the battery.

The battery isn't dead, I have a meter to check that. If ithe ESC were to shut down to protect the battery (even tough my steering is direct power) the receiver still needs power to control what the steering does and it has that power, and the winch works and is powered through the receiver by the ESC. There is either a constant green or red light on. None of that could happen in the ESC shut down.

Mine did this to me at the beginning of a run recently. Cut out 4 times like I hit lvc. After some running I went over 3 hours without another issue... I need to look at my settings but its acting like it thinks my 3cell is a 4 cell until it discharges just enough not to.

Running a Copperhead with slate 1406 1900 kv, and old 5000mah 3s packs, in my 7 lb Wraith.

That is exactly what happens. The ESC sees LV and shutdown like it should. The problem is the ESC should not be seeing LV unless there is low voltage. Castle says there is nothing wrong and it is out fault because we do not use 5000 mah pack. When I ask Joe at castle why I don’t have this problem with my other Castle ESCs he won’t give me an answer.

Send it back to them:

This is what I got from Castle:
>>>>> In this rig it's pulling too much and your battery voltage is hitting cutoff (see below). 650 and 850mah is very low, even for a crawler. Try a 2000mah pack or similar and I suspect your issue will be resolved. We really recommend 5000mah as the minimum, but if you're trying to keep the rig light I understand. There is a limit though. C ratings are very inflated, have been since ~2005.
