Default HW 1080 different heat sink.

Hello all,
I purchased a 1080 through the Hobby wing North America on Amazon. When I opened it the case appears to have been updated to be similar in construction (cast heat sink with machined edges) to the G2 version but the fin layout matches the original HW1080. I’m reached out to HW regarding this, but no response. Has anyone seen this before? I can’t find any photos of a 1080 that look like this.

Thanks.

looks like this one. Appears to be a G2 in an original box. Probably a running change.

So they now have a updated version, still the same ESC and their updating much of their product line.

Guess I don't see the concern. Just explains why I got (and many others)a new 1080 a month ago for $30 off their Amazon store. Clearing out for the updated version.

It’s not a G2. The heat sink mimics the original 1080 fin layout but uses the same manufacturing technique as a G2. Note the 5 rows of fins along the side vs the G2 has 3 rows. If it’s a running change to G2, it doesn’t make sense to create a new heat sink only to move to the G2 shortly. The HW website does not have this in their lineup hence, my concern of what I got. My question was simply inquiring if anyone in the community has seen this before so I could determine whether I should continue to expend brain power on it.

I believe some of the most recent ones I purchased looked like that, but am not at home to verify.

The G2 also has what looks to be threaded bosses on it for a fan.

I say run it and not worry about it

Thanks, I’ll run it and see what happens.

I have 1080s with both styles of heatsink, they perform exactly the same.

I have two of these. One bought last week, and one about a year ago. Both look the same, but not like yours.
