Affordable Outrunner

Anyone has experience with more affordable outrunner options like the 9imod, Surpass or Rhinoesc? They are 35mm diameter and the specs seem good

If I get anyone of those, there's any chance of running it with a Hobbywing 1080?

Re: Affordable Outrunner

Those are brushless motors. Hobbywing 1080 is for brushed motors.

I'm running several Flash Hobby outunners, which are properly economical, as the most expensive one was about $30. I'm running a 1700kv 3530 in one rig, and that one was $21.

The chance of that is zero. Any brushless ESC will manage it, and sound absolutely horrific. You want a dedicated outrunner ESC, like a AG Innovations Ninja, or any of the other flashed AM32s.

Re: Affordable Outrunner

i have a few of the 9imod crawler outrunneres the 3542 in2250kv there really nice if your gearing is low enuff and tge noise isent to bad with a cheap chinese eac i also have several gold can outrunners is different sizes and other than all the work that goes in to them to make them work in a crawler there nice too

i have a 1450kv gold can outrunner in my trx4 2 speed on a 10 tooth pinion and i really like it but at some point it got hot and the glue holding the magnets in let go so i reglued them in and used opsickle sticks soaked in superglue to hold the magnets in place then sanded the rotor smooth and now it works great lol
the start up is good and the sound isent bad ether
the sound issue is mostly with castle escs there anoying on any brushless motor in my opinion anyway
i have outrunner + cheap esc combos that are silent and have good start up

Yes... I'll have to ask because I don't know.... I already have a 1080. I was hoping to use it because it has many parameters to adjust

Those last motors confuse me a bit. The shaft seem held on the part with the mounting holes

ya there kinda confusing for sure lol they need to be converted to work on a crawler its not hard but you need to have a idea of what your working with i have screwed up a few while learning my self but i learned on $6 motors so no big deal but it is posable to ruin one

i prefer the crawler versions that are already to go and have a 3mm shaft not 5mm and the crawler versions have more kv options available

Another thing: what ESC you've got? 45,60 and 120 are all the same price...

I always prefer more power....

Re: Affordable Outrunner

on my small outrunners i have been using a surpass hobby 35a esc
the big ones i use the 120 amp version the 9imod crawler motors say they pull around 100 amps but when i was data loging the amp draw i was seeing 30 amps
i guess it could draw more but thats what the esc sead it was putting out
the data loging is another nice thing about the castle escs that the cheap ones dont have

I'm going for the 120a,then...it doesn't hurt to have more amps if it costs the same.

Re: Affordable Outrunner

Finally got the outrunner. Got a 3536 1000kv and the 120a esc. Can you list your ESC settings? I'm yet to mount the motor but in the hand seems to not have drag brake. It offers little to no resistance to movement. I think I have the brake settings right but I could be wrong

Edit: tried an old ezrun 25a esc and works slightly better than this 120a esc
