Motor browning out in reverse direction?
 

I have a TRX-4 sport upgraded with unlocking diffs, & 2 speed trans.

It has a HH Puller Pro V2 and a Copper Head 10 ESC With B-link.

Spektrum DX5C transmitter with a 6100 Spektrum Receiver.

The Servo is a HH SHV500 LP.

Quick note - the servo is hooked up to get power direct from the battery and not through the ESC. I also have AVC turned off on the transmitter.

When I first hooked everything up the truck would go in reverse when I pulled the throttle to go forward. I went into the B-link app and reversed the motor so it would go forward when I pulled the throttle. Then I noticed the truck would brown out when I turned while going forward. I couldn't figure out why at first. I then remembered that I had switched the motor rotation in the B-link app. The reason I switched the motor rotation in the B-link app instead of on the transmitter is because the ESC turning red instead of green when I go forward drives me insane! I know that I can't see that when the body is on it. But just knowing is enough for me. anyway, I now have switched the motor rotation back to reverse and now the truck only browns out in reverse instead of forward. But I feel it shouldn't brown out at all.

I don't know why the motor is browning out at all. I am looking for a solution to this issue. Please help me to figure this problem out. I plan on going to my first crawler comp next weekend.

You need to recalibrate the radio to the ESC. You're calibrated backwards, because the TRX-4 gearbox is reverse rotation. Recalibrating the radio should fix it (it being the light turning red when going forward.)

If by browning out you mean it in the conventional sense where the steering stops working or the Rx sporadically loses power, that should not happen at all, ever, with a direct power servo. My guess here is that the 6100 is probably to blame, because unless you jumped through the whole circus of hoops, just turning off AVC in the transmitter doesn't turn it off at all. I'm guessing AVC is still activating, so it's acting like loss of servo power. I'm operating under the assumption that you've soldered a JST inline with the battery lead, and not using one of those balance plug jumpers. Those are a bad idea.

The easiest fix is to replace the 6100 with an SR515. All of your problems will almost certainly disappear.

So I figured out why my motor was losing power or browning out or whatever you want to call it when I turned. AVC was still on even though I thought I turned it off on my transmitter. After searching how to turn off AVC with Spektrum I discovered that Just turning it off on the transmitter doesn't work. You have to bind the transmitter and receiver yo turn it off. Every time you bind the receiver and transmitter a certain way it turns the AVC on & off. I don't know if there is multiple different ways to bind a Spektrum transmitter and receiver but I can tell you what I did that turned it off. You press the button on the receiver 3 times then wait a second and press it a 4th time and then you will see the light on the receiver blinking fast. That means it is in bind mode.

Problem solved.
