a new crawling motor? Iwas looking through a catolge in my electricalclass at school the other day and saw a motor in there. it is a 12 volt motor and gear reduction unit. it sdays the reduction ratio is 76.8-1 and the motor speed is 4500 rpm at 12 volts overall it is about 2'' long and about 1'' wide. Iwas wondering what you guys thought about this. I was thinking about possibly putting this on my clod with lst tires. Ishould have enough room for it between the links but i really wanted to know about how that gear ratio would work with something like a 13 and 12 tooth pinion on it. would there still be any wheel speed left or would it be to low. I was not able to bring up that webpage. That motor is probably a smaller motor. It might not have enough torque to work in your clod. Also, you probably wont be able to fit a 32p pinion gear on it since smaller motors have a smaller diameter output shaft. My lathe motor is about 2" long and 1.425" wide. |

wow...58 rpm? lol...your clod wouldn't even move with that slow of a motor! and Stall Torque: 4.3 kg - cm = 60 oz - in. thats nothing |
The problem is the 4500rpm. That's prolly half the speed of a 55T motor on 7.2V. 4500rpm / (76.8 x 30) = 1.95rpm Yer tires ar going to be turning at 1.95 rpm. Converting that to linear speed yer rig would go 0.03 mph. :shock: If you put a 20T pinion in the Clod. 4500 rpm / (76.8 x 19.5) = 3 rpm That would be 0.06 mph. I dont think it is a good idea. Waaaaayyyyyy too slow IMO. |
They make larger, faster, higher torque motors with built in gear reductions, but they are too big to fit on a clod axle. At least your thinking in the right direction. |
