| BEC issue...what are my options?
Hey! I'm using the LRP waterproof ESC (for now) along with 2 HiTec 645's and that Futabe 4WD 4ch receiver and a lathe motor...whatever the normal turn is 55? I don't have enough power to use both servos at the same time and still drive forward and reverse. I do not want to add a secondary battery pack to power the receiver; no where to put it. I will be adding a 3rd servo for front dig in the near future. The battery pack I'm using is a 6AA 2400MaH NiMh. What are my options? Can I just run the reveiver and ESC in paralell off the same pack? |

I thought receivers and servos can run off of 7.2V? I like the SportBEC from dimension engineering, but like I said, I think servos and receivers can run off 7.2V. |

I think there is a voltage regulator so you can use the main pack and it will put out like 6v 5amp or something. I dunno where, i've just read stuff here.

Well I guess 7.2V is nominal, and that's pushing the upper limit for a receiver I think. Maybe that's why a BEC is used then. But yeah, SportBEC is what I like. But I'm a robot builder, not a crawler driver (almost said pilot there!). |

Search this section for MPI Regulator. It will solve all your problems.

this little doo dad is exactly what your looking for! i believe its only rated to 7 maybe 8 cells so you should be alright! oh and its dirt cheap!! http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJJF6&P=7 |

The Novak unit only puts out 3 amps, not enough for the 3 servos he is wanting to use. It is 7 cell max too. It will do 8, but not for long MPI is the best bet for now. I will be trading in my Novak regulators for the Castle Creations one whenever they decide to release it.

I would also recommend the MPI unit for now.

And actually the rear steering isn't allowed in competion for a 2.2 You could eliminate that rear servo for now, that should be ok, until you get the dig set-up. |

Update. I got things wired up and all is well. It works like it should. Thanks all! One question though...If I essentially split the incoming power lead to power both the Rx and ESC seperately, why do I need a voltage regulator? The pot on the regulator is turned all the way up to give the Rx the 7.34vdc. Couldn't I have just saved the $40, the weight, and the wiring and just left it out? All I would've had to do was remove the signal wire from the ESC connector and tapped off the main incoming battery leads.

I suggested the voltage reg to you because I didn't want you to burn up a bunch of servos and learn about the problems the expensive way, like I did.

That's fair. I was sure there was a reason, but wasn't sure exactly why. What would your suggestion be for a dig servo for that R2? I like nice stuff...
