Default Clod esc question

ok i did some searching which did not give me quite the answer i was looking for.

what alternative escs are there for clodbusters. i want to build a cheap clod (and i mean cheap) and a SR is somewhat out of the question (unless i can find a superb deal on one). Jam1sstang is a friend of mine so of course i would be running lathe motors. i would not be running digital servos (way to expensive) so not going to need the most power in the world.

if i can find an alternate choice then i will build a clod. if not. i will finish my tlt and look into a clod another time.

thanx

Are you planning on running 1 or 2 servos? This is something that has an effect on the answer to your question. A speed control with a higher BEC will be able to handle 2 servos easier and without a separate reciever pack.

Until my Rebel 2 comes in, I am currently using a Duratrax Sprint. It is one of the cheaper ESC's ($49.99), and lowest end, feature wise. But I have to use a reciever pack in order to get any kind of power to my servos.

Also, how cheap do you want? What is the maximum you are willing to spend? The Tekin Rebel 2 ($79.95) is cheaper than a Super Rooster, but it may also be out of your price range.

In my opinion the ESC is one of the most important componants of any electric RC, but especially in crawling. It affects the throttle control, the power to the servos, the max # of cells you can run, what kind of motors you can run, etc. If the SR or Rebel 2 is out of your price range, you may want to consider just waiting until you can save up the funds to buy one. I can't stand my Sprint (it came with a kit i bought), so I saved up for a quality ESC. It will make a big difference in the satisfaction you get from the hobby.
