I have an extra JR Z-590M steering servo and I am debating about putting it in my Wheely King. The HPI servo says that it is 6.5kg-cm, however every servo I have seen is measured in oz/in. What is the conversion? I am assuming that teh JR servo is much better than the stock HPI servo but any info would be helpful.

The JR590M has 85oz of torque and a transit time of 0.15 sec at 6.0volts. I cant find the exact specs of the SF-1 servo in the WK but since it is basically a knock off of a Futaba 3003 I would assume it has less than the 85oz of the JR, plus the JR is a metal gear servo where as the SF-1 is not. But one thing to remember is that the JR will have to use a different servo arm since the output splines on the servos are not the same.

1 kg = 35.3 oz 1 cm = 0.394 in Therefore: 6.5 kg-cm = 90.4 oz-in

So by that math the Stock HPI servo is better than the JR servo, other than the metal vs platic gearing. That sucks because the stock HPI servo is garbage!

Ok, I have come to the conclusion that I am going to buy a new steering servo. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How much money are you willing to spend? The besty servo I have used is the HiTec 5955TG, but it is spendy. The 645MGs are pretty good as well (at turning 2.2" sized tires).

I would like to stay under $75, but if I may change that just so that I don't have to buy something else later.

What is the ideal oz./in. servo? Is there so much as to much? I am thinking the target servo may be around 150 oz./in. Am I worng? Does it need to be more?

The wheely king should do just fine on the HiTech 645 MG and, if I remember correctly, they were only $45 each.

I've been running a Towerpro MG945 in my crawler (one-time WK) for a few months now without a hitch (knock on wood). It has metal gears, 12kg/cm torque stall and can be found for less than $20.00. I just popped one in the rear as well for 4WS. Just my 2 cents worth, Sean
