Default JR 8711 servo

I am new to crawling and need to find out if this servo is appropriate for crawling and if there are any issues with overheating or failures with the JR8711. with over 400 oz of torque,I figured it had the torque rating needed for most any application, but just want to make sure. Thanks in advance.

I have the New 8711's on my Clod, and an old 8711 on my 2.2. They hve the power. Waiting on my BEC's to make them even better.

Sorry, 8711.

I have a Novak goat system coming and it is suppose to have a strong enough BEC for most servos.Do you guys think this may not be the case?

Both my daughter and I run them on our 2.2's, her's has been going strong for 5months. You might not need a regulator with the high amp BEC the Goat has, just have to try it and find out. The Mamba Max BEC couldn't handle it for more than a week, before it started wigging out and I had to go to a regulator.

I am friends with a rep at Horizon who warned me that they had problems with this servo early on.Overheating and the like.I wanted to see what others have experienced. It looks as though you have had a good experience so far long term. Thanks for the input.

It has gotten hot(sometimes too hot to hold my finger on), but it has worked flawlessly nonetheless. Another member of my club had one fry on him as soon as he turned it on the first time(they warrantied it for him), but I haven't had any problems with ours.

Wow!Thats pretty hot! Are there any other servos you may recommend that may be comparable without the overheating problems? What about the 9000t?

I haven't used the 9000t, but I will say, my servo doesn't get that hot, and my daughter's doesn't anymore either, since I wired the servo directly to the regulator, bypassing the receiver(I don't know why that made a difference). I have used the hitec5995TG, and several other weak servos(645, 5645, TP995, ST126), and I won't use any other servo now. But that is just my opinion.

Ok good.I will just use the 8711 that I have and pray for the best. Can you point me to an area that shows how the regulators work with servos? Also what brand too? I wanna cover my bases if the Goat system BEC doesn't cut it for this servo. Thanks again!

Here is a link to a write up Grizzly did on an MPI one.
How To: Installing an MPI voltage regulator

Also, JRH from HolmesHobbies is getting a new one from Castle Creations that's looks like it will be the best one on the market.

Edit: link

I would see why after using a regulator the servo may run cooler. The demand these servos require are high and constant.A low voltage situation would more then likely cause the overheating issue.I think I will pick up one of the MPI ones just in case. Thanks for the link!
