Default Are cell ratings on ESC's accurate?

I was just wondering this and also if the motor you run makes a difference for how many volts the esc can handle. like the rooster crawler is rated for 7 nicd or nimh cells. When i'm running my 55t in a light weight 2.2 would i get by safely with running an 8 cell pack? its just 1.2 volts more... would it really be risky? I mean i'd hate to fry a $90 esc by my own stupidity!

That particular controller has a 27 turn motor and 7-cell limit. So it can safely handle 7 cells with a 27 turn motor. Since you are using a 55 turn motor (= less amp draw). I would say 8 cells would be ok as long as you are indeed using it in a light weight rig. Unfortunately there are to many variables that must be taken into account to be able to give you a definite answer. Plus companies have been known to under rate and over rate there products so your best bet would be to call Novak and ask them since they are the ones that will know for sure.

alright thanks for the advice. i always kind of assumed that companies would under-rate their items to further ensure smooth operation. but yeah that is a good idea to give novak a call. i will definitely do that. thanks again.
