Since my Mars Type 2000R was stolen out of my car I am now on the search for a new radio. Since I know I will be spending some decent money to get a good FM radio I figured why not get the best. What my question is though, does anyone have experience with the Futaba 3PK in a crawler using rear wheel steering? My friend has a JR XR3 and it has a mixable third channel so he can set it to have as little or as much rear steering as he wants. I have neven been a big fan of JR so I was going to try to stay away from them. I have read the info off of Futaba's site stating that the 3PK has mixable channels but it does not get into specifics. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

On the manual of the 3PK page 40-41 explain about the setting of the Ch3 mixing. http://www.futaba-rc.com/manuals/3pk-manual.pdf .

Check out this site: http://craftlab.net/epage/elibrary%203pk.htm It shows how to set up rear wheel steering with the 3pk. It also has a small video showing the different modes of steering that can be set up with the 3pk.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Dark Lord! Dangit.. just read further posts and find that I can't setup the 3PM to do this.. guess I'll have to come up with the money for the PK... -Jay Last edited by BigJay; 07-19-2005 at 03:35 PM.

I know this will sound silly, but I've been using Futaba my whole life. I really like their fit and finish and I've never had a problem with one. I have looked at the TQ3 and that is my standby. Ok so I need to post a question to clarify about the 3PM.. I've read about 4 pages worth of search results and I'm not completely clear on it's function... What I would like, is to mix in my rear steering. If I could get the 3PM to just mix front and rear steering, and be able to turn off the rear steering at the touch of a button I'd be happy. If I can make it crabwalk, that would be a bonus. If I could steer the rear wheels with the front straight that would be an extra bonus, but I don't know that I need to be able to do that. Thanks -Jay

you can have non indy rear steer with a 2 channel, and wiring the servos together or a Y connecter.......but you wont be-able to turn off the rear steer, which if you dont have "indy" rear steer can be very handy to beable to do that. | |

Right.. but will the mixing on the 3 channel 3PM allow me to do the stuff I asked about in the previous post? When I had a clod years and years ago the rear steer was a pain sometimes, now that I'm building a new one I really want to be able to turn off the rear steering from the remote.. -Jay

I'm going to support the TQ3 also. Except for EPAs, it's freaking perfect. You will want the ability for independant rear, crab steer, and the other one. All of them are used all the time. Sometimes your right in the middle of a sweet climb up something huge and the truck starts to slip, or gets stuck. Move your thumb to hit the rear steer, and POW, traction. When it's second nature, it's great. I tried the mixing and programming and it ended up being a pain. For me anyways, I'm a drinker. :-P Why mess with anything, like programming, when all it takes is to wiggle your thumb on the toggle switch? It's right there when you need it! $65 is CHEAP for something that is darn near perfect for crawling. The less you have to focus on what your radio is or isn't doing the better. You can prob'ly find a TQ3 for real cheap on eBay, then buy a toggle switch and do it yourself for a little cheaper. Maybe?
