help again with super rooster

what does it mean when i turn on my super rooster and the red light is on and when i press set to set it up it goes out and never turns solid red? when i let up on the set button the light never comes back on until i turn it off and back on. the insturctions dont really have any troubleshooting for this. it was a used esc, maybe it was a used up esc. any help???????
