Default Lathe motor problems

I have two integy lathe motors and i have a prob. i tryed running one on a duratrax Auto sport speed control and on a duratrax 8t racing speed control. i have used other motors with no problems but with the lathes they run for about 30 seconds then quite, the servos still work but motor doesnt, after a about 15 to 45 seconds it works again for a little bit then it dies again. its not heating up, and the motors have caps. whats up, other motors work great. just not the lathe motors.

interesting problem. my only guess is that the esc's have some resistance or inductance sensor. that is just wild speculation though, it sounds like the thermal kill but it cant be.

This is something that I just found with a new pair of lathe motors.

Put them on dyno to do break in and the motor would not start up, When i took it apart, I found that the com was very out of round, they both had a taper of about .005 from the endbell in, so just a very small part of the brush was touching the com, after the cut they were fine.

Just thought it might help if others have problems, its something to look for..

If your lathe motors are fairly used, the commutator could be worn as I B Racin said. Another thing that could be happening is a hung brush, the brush is not contacting the comm. due to vaious reasons. Maybe the brush is worn or the spring is caught.

you are right, the coms are fudged up. only the top ends of the brushes are touching, they only have about ten minutes on them, thanks.

You may also want to check the hood. I've had a few hoods catch or pinch the brush, stopping it from making contact with the comm. When you have the motor all built up, try pulling back on the brush wire and letting it go, snapping it into play. If it hangs up you'll need to re-shape the hood or align it.

Good luck.
