Default topher goes Full Sendero

After selling a couple rigs this week I was finally able to bring one of these home. SRDLV out here opened their doors up on a holiday for me to come by and pick up this truck. Way cool of them to do that . They’re definitely going to get a lot more of my business in the future.

What do you do when you have the same truck as hundreds of others? You take the same picture as them and post it on RCC.

Going to read through your builds and start tinkering before an event this weekend. First up will be tucking the bumpers in, seeing if the ssd brass hubs fit the wheels, and adding the optional overdrive gears.

Not sure about paint yet but this may need to be my first foray into painting the exterior of the body. Can’t wait to get it out on some rocks

Congrats!

Hey, that looks just like mine...and everybody else’s!

That’s cool SRDLV did that. They are some great people. I’ve bought my scale license plates from them in the past.

Can’t wait to see how you decide to paint it. It will be my first time too painting the outside of the body.

Their plates are nice quality too.

I have no idea on paint yet. There are a lot of nice ones out there, I think I’ll go two tone because the body has great lines for it. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with too

Started tinkering, installed the OD gears, aluminum servo horn, and tucked/trimmed the bumpers. I thought about changing out the esc but noticed this one has a 6v 3amp bec which is decent for stock, so I’m going to keep it in for a bit instead of jumping into a hw1080 right away.

After looking it over I had to tighten the front shock/panhard mount as it was loose and causing a lot of flex. Added more grease to the transmission gears as there wasn’t much in there when I cracked it open.

Haven’t gotten into the axles yet but everything seems fine and rolls smooth.

Your Enduro body looks so pristine LOL! Man... a couple of weeks, and mine looks beat. It's even got creases like bending sheet metal. Maybe that's what Element was going for with this body?

I wish they had a "hard" version of the body though. I really like the cab design.

I like the look of the body too, but I’m worried about how long it will last. Considering throwing some gorilla tape behind it now after hearing that

Thanks man!

I just got done swapping the hubs and they do fit, with a couple “but”s

Two things of note: the hardware that comes with the rtr wheels/hubs has different thread spacing. However, the ssd hardware is the same size and fits. The only downer here is since I only did the front, now the hardware on my front and rear wheels doesn’t match.

Second, the ssd brass hubs have a slight offset compared to the enduro rtr hubs. Because of this the scale hub caps that they include will no longer have enough thread left to bite. So now my hubs in front and back don’t match either.

Thinking I’ll bite the bullet and just get new wheels.

Raises the question...
Who makes low offset brass slw hubs?

Good to know about the thread pitch difference though. Thanks!

New suit for the truck. Took all night but got it all done and also installed fenders and a new servo.

Not much light in here as it’s 6am out here now, but I’ll have more pics after this morning’s event.

I approve of that paint combo! ;)
What paints did you use? Looks great and chrome trim looks excellent as well. Really brings out the old school flavor you did.

Hope to see some vid from the event!

Very nice job on the paint, I like it! I'm still waiting for my kit, and should have parts to try a offset front tomorrow. You guys are doing a great job posting up what you're doing to your trucks! Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate all the kind comments.

The paint is Rustoleum high performance enamel. For prep I masked, stripped the decals, scrubbed with scotch brite pad, washed gently with simple green and water, laid down 3 light coats of plastic adhesive promoter, then did the light coat x 3, masked the two tone, and did the dark coat x 3, masked the bed, and hit it with rustoleum bed liner.

Pretty happy with the outcome, especially for being the first go of it. The paint held up relatively well, ran 200 gates and 3 abbreviated comp exhibition courses. It took some nicks that would have held up better had it had time to properly cure but I had it out on the rocks less than 3 hours from being done spraying. The gray underneath made for a nice ‘steel’ effect. May hit the dark coat again for touch ups and let it cure properly. Chrome was done with a molotow pen.

I’ll need to deal with the wheel wells as they keep the cab from sitting as low as it did without them, by a hair.

I got a lot of video and some pics from this morning, I’ll post some up later today but I need a nap first. Here’s one in the wild for now.

The truck did great but I’ll let the video speak for itself once it’s posted. Nothing too crazy but for stock save for wheels/vp disc weights/amazon servo, I was impressed.

Did anyone feel like it needed a touch more anti-squat? I have the brackets to raise the rear upper links but the motor sits back a little too far to make it simple.
