| Mounting speed controller and receiver
I am not a huge fan of mounting the controller on one side and the receiver on the other; am I the only one? I've seen the ESC mounted next to the steering servo. I have seen the receiver mounted toward the rear, opposite the battery. Anybody here come up with creative or different placement? If so, please share. |

On my Ascender I installed a transverse battery tray (which is how the Enduro is setup from the factory) and attached my HobbyWing 1080 ESC upside down to the bottom of the battery tray. Check for clearance before trying that as link geometry may vary slightly. I then installed my receiver next to my servo, as well as the ESC power switch. This moved all weight forwards and as low as it would go, and kept all wiring under the cab of my Chevy K10 body. You can see the ESC peeking out from under the silver steel battery tray right behind the shock towers. It's visible just below the spiral-wrapped excess wiring... I've been running this configuration for a long time now, and it has no issues with interference. Oh, also - the radio antenna is run through the extra body post mounting holes, and the ESC has never fallen off - even after a 4 foot free-fall onto solid rock, landing directly onto the steel front bumper! I'll also be moving the electronics around on my Enduro very soon - just got some parts to help with that - I'm doing it differently because of the body I just got in. |

How concerned should I be about not putting the receiver in the "waterproof" box provided?

I don't ever run through more than an inch of water, never had any issues. Your results may vary! You may need to make a waterproof box out of something smaller if you plan on really getting wet... If you are using FlySky radio gear, they have a newer waterproof version of their receiver (which I am using on my Enduro build - the label has a blue tint): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077N5TQTB...NsaWNrPXRydWU= Last edited by durok; 01-07-2020 at 08:43 AM. |
