Default Sweet spot overdrive ratio for crawling?

I am building GK (minus the cage) for crawling (not trailing) and wondering what OD ratio you guys like most

the numbers from mtnwheelings post on 11/6/21...

the kit options
26T Idler 54T Drive Gear = +11.83% Overdrive (I got 11.25%)
27T Idler 53T Drive Gear = +5.7% overdrive (I got 5.53%)
28T Idler 54T Drive Gear = 0% (1:1, no overdrive)

some aftermarket options
HR UD2 24T Idler 56T Drive Gear = +22.73%
HR UD3 25T Idler 55T Drive Gear = +16.9%

TIA

Closer to 40% if you want it to really stay planted.

I'm using the stock 11.8% it's clearly not enough for my taste, neither for helping with the turning nor climbing, I ordered the Team KNK 25% gears which is closer to what I'm at with my other scale crawler truck.

I'd take information from that garbage channel with a grain of salt. To be honest I'm surprised you were able to sit through the video long enough to get that information. Holy ****.

I'm probably full of shit, too. But I've got a trucks with 20%, 30% and one with 37%. I'll take the latter. The truck I'm working on now will be built for climbing (the phoenix kinda sucks at that from what I've seen in person), and has a vfd twin. I'll be able to switch between 17.5% and 44% (11% OD in the axles, it's complicated). Then I'll really be able to test it.

Also, I used KNK 25% overdrive (underdrive) gears when I built a gatekeeper a couple months back. They're sold out on the knk site, but RPP has them.

Front overdrive / rear underdrive works some of the time, but an even 1:1 works all of the time. Big overdrive is a nightmare on sidehill. Vanquish really got it right on the VFD Twin, because it's "big" OD that you can turn off. I swapped out the gearbox in my Ecto to trade that small percentage OD for dig, and it's far more capable. The way I look at it is both OD and dig are highly situational in the usefulness, but you'll get a lot more out of dig.

Also, it's perhaps anecdotal, but I've found some tires do better without any OD-- I didn't like Landmines on the Phoenix much at all, but they're great on unmodified TRX-4 axles. By the same token, Tusks are better with OD than without.

So TL;DR, I'd say with a Stealth put it on the 11 point whatever percent and leave it. IME that amount of OD doesn't matter, but the tiny bit of extra front speed will help tighten the turning a little bit, without killing sidehill performance.

Empirical but anecdotal-- that's where I live.

Great info Dr!

I watched your video about the trans swap and will be trying one out. Haven't had dig since the Creeper days

Liking this build so far
