Default FJ Runner

Heya Guys!!

It’s been a while since I was last on here. Well Runner is back again, and is going a different direction again… I found a HPI FJ Cruiser clear body at the LHS. It was grab and not think twice type of purchase.

Runner has been through a few changes at the chassis as well. I did the KC mod to the front. It has the smaller TRD front skid and the KnightRunner skid between the IFS and center skid.

A couple of other things include the SSD Enduro axle and front diff carrier. I really like these much more than stock.

Great find and buy! No second guessing that decision! Been wanting to find the that FJ body for awhile now!

Smashed the subscribe button so I don't miss seeing how this turns out!

Yeah, that FJ body is definitely worthy of having a build done around it.

Nice score!

A bit a small update tonight. Runner got some electronics today. A 13T Crawlmaster sport for power, an 1080 esc for control, and a Reefs Triple 4 for steering.

Also, the wheel and tire combo has been picked out as well.

The wheels are SSD 8 spoke wagon wheels, with 4.19” BFG Mud-Terrains. Next up is a servo wench.

I have a few parts off at the printer right now, which includes a rear interior mount and rear bumper. That should be here next week.

Stay tuned more to come, as this build is just getting started!

Time for an update on Runner again!

Well Runner was missing a rear bumper. I ended up placing the rear of the body on graph paper:

Then off to Fusion 360 for a bit. I decided to go with a tubed style bumper based on some real aftermarket bumpers:

This is what I cam up with. It is bolting in the same way as the KnightRunner’s does. And then I sent it off to Shapeways for printing. Here it is on the truck.

I think it turn out pretty good and made my day after long day at work.

I got a few other parts from Shapeways. Just need to grab hardware first.

Agreed! I’d like to find an FJ body one of these days. Not sure what I’d use it for, but it’d be cool to paint and put on the shelf at least

Btw the RGT or Yikong versions of the body can still be had but unfortunately only prepainted.

FYI, check RPP Hobby. After wanting one of the clear FJ bodies for years, I finally found them in stock at RPP. Was shocked to see it in stock and rapidly thru it in my cart! I'm sure they won't last long!

They are cool looking that is for sure. Got quite a bit of character unlike some newer vehicles.

Why’d you go and tell him about my secret stash of spare bodies ? I seen they were in stock at RPP Hobby as well.

Also, HPI has been rereleasing older bodies, maybe they will rerelease this one as well ?

Ha! Yeah this secret was too good to keep to myself! Though know I wish I would have bought 2 of them.

I'm wondering if the stock RPP has/had was the re-released bodies from HPI. They have been out of stock everywhere and then appeared on RPP. Hopefully HPI will be making more of these sooner than later!

I see you started one there as well! Good luck and have fun!!

Well I got my hardware so a bit of an update on the FJ Runner. I designed a combo mount on Fusion 360 to hold some of the accessories at the back and secure the interior:

It mounts some of the accessories that I had laying around. These are from the Axial Overland pack for the Gladiator.

I decided to cut the extra bars in front of the lights off. I am waiting on an order at the LHS for a Power Shift RC light kit for the HPI Venture.

Now back to the chassis for an update there as well. I am planning on running the truck as both a C1 Comp rig and a trail rig. I usually run 1300mah batteries for comps and a 2200mah for trailing. I came up with a sliding battery tray that fits both sizes.

More to come soonish.

Loving it. That front bumper mod makes sense and clears up the vision for the headlights.

Yeah, bumper looks great and fits the look well!

Excellent job on the battery tray! Awesome that it is adjustable! I'm shocked that this has never been made before by any of the manufacturers!

Thanks BMOW!

I got the idea from the 10.3 trays that come with the Kit. Those just didn’t fit the batteries I have, or slide enough for my liking. Got a similar tray for the 10.3 as well.
