Default berg/ocm rear axle flip and clock

ok so this was such an easy mod for the berg and it clears the motor out of harms way .

no holes needed to be drilled and all that was required was to grind new reliefs for the housing and then the axle tubes rotated to the next holes .

also this is not a permanent mod and can easily be swapped back to it's original configuration .

this mod puts the motor above and behind the rear axle so to give more clearance under the truck .

it also will open up room in front of and on top of the rear axle to mount any gear needed nice and low .

these pix show the stock housing as it comes then the stock housing clocked as most are doing.

not sure, but i think the motor will be sticking out past the tires, could cause problems with steep climbs or roll overs damaging the motor. lets see it installed on the truck.

nice idea though, hope it works out.

not sure either rockbound i did this because of how easy it is to flip it back , so far it seems solid

It is a rear axle................there is no caster angle because the hubs are locked.

This thread has me want to go play with my front axle some more...............gotta find a way to get that big batt pack up there!!

Mod looks good. I contemplated something like this after talking to several guys about it.

I decided not to because I didn't want the weight of the motor above the axle and hanging off the back of the rig. Just couldn't get over the thought of making a climb and having that motor weight in the worst possible place: hanging off the top of the axle helping to tip it over backwards.

There have been dozens of packs through mine and I am satisfied with clocking the rear up just a tad and using a little horsepower to muscle it over any obstacle. So far, no complaints.

PLEASE let us know how well this works - I am not opposed to changing my mind on the issue.

those are good points, i too have not had any problems hanging up on anything with it in the front of the axle clocked up. I never once thought about the weight distribution as you stated.

that is a valid point about the weight of the motor and where it is placed in conjunction to it's effect over the way it puts torque on the axle.

i had thought about that a little and am going for the clearance . the truck statically stands vert like any other truck and i feel i can make up for that with weight placement toward the front . i think the torque effect you bring up can also increase traction .

we'll see , the nice thing is i can swap it back in about 5 mins

The underside of my rear motor was trashes on the first pack and has remained trashed ever since. Honestly, clock it about 10 degrees by lengthening the upper links a bit and give it a try if this doesn't work. You will be happy.
