Been running a very modded AX-10, 1st crawler after 20+ years racing RC, as capable as it is I'm tired of dig headaches and twisting driveshafts. So I've joined the Berg Army Here is what I've got so far: Custom Chassis, 1/8" magnesium w/delron skid Clocked ft/rr axles Stock shocks with internal full droop springs Tekin FX-R twin 45t motors Panther Cougars Hobbico CS-170 servo Nomadio Sensor Hitec micro servo dig.

Man that chassis looks great!! I'm gonna be building my own I think too, something just about like what you've done. One question though, and I could be totally wrong on this, but isn't magnesium a soft metal?

Thanks, the design is a little of this and a little of that from a few things I've seen or wish I'd seen. Magnesium is very similar to Al, a little softer perhaps, but also lighter, definelty harder and more rigid than delron and cutting boards some people and companies use so I figure it ought to work. Used to also be a very popular material for axle hubs in 1/12 and straight axle (now Pro-10) racing over Al due to lighter rotational mass. Time will tell but it seems plenty solid enough so far.

I also run mine full droop. I found that less of an angle on the shocks worked better. It looks like you can move the tops out a little further on your setup. Nice work

Chassis looks great dude. I bet it took one hell of a machinist to do something that fantastic!! That thing is going to make a real stink out of our next comp.... Ben

Actual hardness, I bet it's about the same as aluminum. Mag machines much easier and is much less gummy when compared to aluminum. When you look at it as a structure, mag will probably have the advantage in almost every case. As Miller Tyme pointed out, dremel grinding should be avoided. The dust will be very ignitable. Ben | |

Yeah, I knew it was extremely ignitable. I umm used to know somebody when I was a little kid that would bring 55 gallon cardboard barrels of the stuff to a big woodpile and burn it... I'm assuming it was shavings from a mill, cause it was all itty bitty flakes/chips....talk about lighting up the night...

Awesome news, Thanks for the Info This brings me to the next stage, things I plan to do next: Mayhem Engineering wheels, wide stance is killing some of the tight maneuvers . Dual FX-R Speedos, coupled with the flexibility of the Nomadio, this will be fun Bent rear links Replace bug body I've been running with Prolines C-10 Definitely need to Loc-Tite all the bolts seems all tapped holes are a little oversized. Tweak the steering links to clear wheels/tires What ever else I can find to fidget with I'll post more pics as the project progresses

Phase II Dual FX-Rs Placed them on a piece of Lexan 't' shaped to seperate the solder posts jumpered the Batt post together. Built plates for front axle to place lead, 4 1/2oz each side, prefer not to add rotational mass and stress to steering servo. Replaced link ends with Axial on steering, trying to lower stack height to clear tire...when the Mayhems get here:-P Mounted the Battery in chassis, sits below the upper shock mounts, even though it is not on the upper front link where I'd prefer it it is actually lower and has more room here. Thought about mounting it lower under the radio gear but the combined weight of the 2 esc's and Rx a about a wash with the 3oz Lipo.

I'm still looking at stick setups on the clod threads. I might try doing a stick version first to see what it's like. You know how I am dude, the only way to get it out of my system is to just let me do it. Ben

So you see my problem. I cannot spend another $1500 on any form of R/C right now. And you know this is the only way I would do it. I still have night mares at how JAKEY my helios 3rd channel is, I have contemplated starting a protest aimed at KoPropo to force a recall on all helios ex10's for the lack of 3rd channel control. | |
