Default steering setup advice

is there really that big of an advantage to having the steering behind the axle? is the clearance that much better? the reason im asking is because i have my battery on my axle next to the servo and dont wanna move it for the steering unless its a huge advantage...

CDW for 20* clocked axles FTW! Outstanding fit and quality. It is what I use on both my berg and my son's berg.

The cdw wasnt for me, the Ckrc kit is good but the tierod was really weak for me, other than that I liked it real well.
