Chaotic Crawlers "DEMON" build! aka "Kreacher"

I have had my Demon chassis since monday night and have been slowly putting it together and making sure everything works, fits, and functions the way it should!

So far, so good!!!
I have had zero issues and the rig has gone together very smoothly!!!(not that I expected to have any issues)

this chassis has been designed to keep all the same link and shock geometry of the el nino line of chassis's but to give you an edge above the rest.

this chassis is 35mm wide and only 1 3/4" tall total!!!
which means set up at full droop the GC will come in somewhere between 2.5"- 3.5" depending where your shocks are mounted!!!
all while keeping everything below the tops of the tires still.8)
(in reference, the el nino chassis setup identically to this would give you between 1 3/4"-2" of GC)

also this chassis was designed to keep all your weight as low as possible!
it was designed around using a smaller lighter weight battery mounted on the skid.(this puts the battery about level with the center of your motor cans)
I always mount my electronics on my upper links and will do it on this rig as well!

This build consists of,

Berg axles
Chaotic Crawlers "DEMON" chassis (polished by murffdog)"thumbsup"
epic 45t motors
hitec 7950tg servo
Tekin FXR
punk dig
CC BEC
Spektrum
Thunder power 1350mah 3 cell(30c cont. 60c burst)
Mayhem UCW wheels aluminum front, delrin rear
HB rovers(white dot)
Losi crawler shocks
lunsford upper links
custom stainless lowers (bent 20 degrees)
RC Innovations steering rod with ckrc servo mount
VP Knuckles

I will post pics as the build comes along.

this is what I started with...

Looks like a nice start..

That new chassis all polished up looks bad ass Marc! "thumbsup" Can't wait to see it all together.

I got the axles all cleaned up and regreased.

and started putting them together before I went to bed last night.

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...onbuild018.jpg

the steering took most of my time last night, to be honest!
it was a real bitch to get the ckrc servo mount to throw far enough for my liking!
it seems to either hit the upper links or it doesn't throw far enought the opposite way!
I got it working finally, but it's still not maxing out the super 300's!

I bloted it all together this morning, but have to go to work, so I will post up pics later!

great looking set-up Marc!8) cant wait to see the roller!
you worried about the lower links snagging on everything? out boarded lowers seem to really get snagged on stuff from what I have seen when I ran it...

The Great NazT has his links outboarded and if ya haven't noticed it doesn't seem to affect him kicking everyones a$$ at each and every comp...HAHA :):)

Wow I didn't know mike was running out board lowers..it must not be a problem..I do always get my butt woopped by mike..haha

Come on marc hurry up with the pics would yah!! :-)

Chaotic Crawlers 03-04-2010 06:01 PM

My original idea with this chassis was to inboard the links. But then the chassis would have had to be taller and wider which was the opposite of what I was going for.
So with all this extra GC I'm not too worried about the links on the outside of the chassis at the moment.
Once we get some good drive time on it we will know whether we need to change anything though.

here she is all mounted up!

I am doing a little tinkering with the wheelbase tonight along with starting to wire it up!

Looks mean! I think Chaotic crawlers knocked it out of the park with this one. Great GC and super low COG! Whats not to love about it?
Cant wait to see it all finished up!

Wicked chassis... Going to be ready for St. George??

Mac10 03-04-2010 10:37 PM

thanks jake!

it will definately be ready for st george!

I plan on running it this weekend to test it out and tune the suspension.

I've got it as a roller, and slapped the electronics in it to test drive it.
now I just have to clean up the wiring!

there isn't really a ton of space to work with, so I really have to think this one out!(I can't have a rats nest!):?

Harvo 03-05-2010 12:21 AM

So whats going on in the pic? The springs on the shocks arent compressed but the shafts are completely compressed :?

Build is looking great "thumbsup" Just curious about that.

goodoldlevi 03-05-2010 08:22 AM

Wow that thing looks wicked"thumbsup"

53 willys 03-05-2010 08:29 AM

wow that thing looks MEAN!!! nice work Marc....lets see some more pics all done and ready!?

Mac10 03-05-2010 09:22 AM

They are only 2" long springs.
So at full compression they have no tension on them unless I preloaded them.

I run all my rigs with little to no spring tension.
I'm usually 98% droop.

But this rig I may change some things!

Also we got quite a bit of snow last night, so I question whether I will be able get any drive time this weekend?

Pray for warm weather for me!!!
I really need to drive this thing!

Mac10 03-06-2010 04:23 PM

I got it up and running late last night and took it out for it's maiden voyage today.

Kreacher performed beyond my expectations today.
I'm going to make some small changes to my front shock setup this weekend.
And I think it will be pretty close to dialed in!

I will post some pics later when I have time to upload photos!

The extra GC is incredible and it's surprisingly not any less stable on sidehlls.
We ran it side by side with multiple other rigs, and it felt planted as usual.

It definately drives a little differently than my old rig but it's mostly du to the lower links having such an incline on them compared to always having them flat.

53 willys 03-06-2010 04:46 PM

the demon looked to be driving really really nice out there today!!
clean set-up Marc8)

atekt 03-06-2010 05:24 PM

Rig definitely looked good Mac,can't wait to see it on the red rocks

Mac10 03-07-2010 10:11 PM

here is how "Kreacher" sits as of tonight!

I had originally wired this up with the electronics split between front and rear, so I rewired it friday night.

the only great place I could find to mount my ESC was my axle.
I don't really like it there, but it will do for now until I get a new soldering iron and a can or two of liquid motivation!

I have this rig sitting at 2 3/4" of gc, and it extends up to just under 4".

my shocks are internally limited, so I would imagine this has the ability to extend out to around 4 1/4"-4 1/2"

in utah, if your rig doesn't sidehill exceptionaly well, you will not place well in a comp.
I pride myself on my rigs sidehilling ability usually, as it has helped me win comps before.

this rig sidehills just as good as my old el nino2 rig, but now has the center clearance to conquer obstacles with more ease and less hang up.

I definately noticed an improvement over my old rig, and am excited to get back on the rocks and get some more drive time logged and tuning dialed exactly to my liking.
