Default RcBros Berg Rebuild. Numero Dos!

Well its time for a rebuild on the old berg, everyone has been changing chassis' lately so I figured I might as well too!

Specs:
Holmes Epic 45T handwounds (13T front, 12T rear)
Tekin FXR
CC BEC
Spektrum Mini RX
Punk Dig
Hitec 7950TH
300 CVD's
300 3rd Gears
RcBros Lightweight 4th gear
JeepinDoug Lockouts
RcBros High Steer Berg Spec 0* ackerman knuckles
86 Jeep style steering
Racers Edge Clamp Servo Horn
Vanquish DH Fronts
Vanquish SLW Rears
Rovers Siped
Fubar Proto Chassis w/ my own twist
TIE rear links
Custom Delrin Fronts
Losi Shocks Rear
YR 100m Shocks front w/ my own twist

I first started out by comparing my new chassis with the old chassis, Width is near identical as well as the front shock mounting location. However the rear in the Fubar chassis allows for a larger ground clearance for steep climbs and breakovers.

The Vanquish out of the package comes in at 85g on my scale

The Fubar out of the package with battery mount comes in at 100g. Alittle more then I was expecting.

I swapped out all the hardware for Stainless hardware and was able to save just under 5 grams, but I still wasn't done with experimenting.

I began comparing the Vanquish and Fubar skids and the location of the TVP mounting holes. With alittle bit of persuasion I managed to adapt the vanquish skid to the fubar chassis, saving 20 grams of weight.

more to come....

I drilled the center holes into the vanquish skid then countersunk the holes on the Fubar side plates and added some stainless hardware with the T1E Links and used 91mm axle links for the top.

Then bolted up the rear axle.

It's looking pretty good so far. Have you used the T1E links on other chassis's besides the moonbuggy? I've thought about trying them on my droid chassis but haven't yet.

This will be the first time I've used them.

Not this time around but I should be hitting the low 5lb mark.

Pardon my newbness, but is that rear axle clocked as well? Did you do that just for geometry/shock mounting?

Yes, the rear is clocked. Its not necessary but with the T1E rear links the motor can will not clear the links unless clocked.

So I went ahead and got the front axle back on the rig so I now have a roller.

The geometry with all the new pieces really seems to work well and I'm excited to get this beast running. I think for the first time I may have to actually limit some articulation!

Next up is electronics, I have to slightly modify my configuration in order to fit each piece inside the TVPs.

Got the electronics in, very tight fit! I plan on looking into getting a set of crimps so I can make my wires custom length.

Just need to install my battery mount and figure out how to re-mount the body now

Ok, so I spent the previous year chasing high clearance rigs with a low slung limited articulating drooped rig. I might have gone to far..

Put about 20 battery packs in the rig during labor day weekend, the rig does alot better then my old setup, I just need to add a few more slugs up front to help with near verticle climbs and it'll do amazing!

On a side note....

Our 4th gears are now back in stock!

Check them out in the vendor section, or on our site directly HERE while we were making sure everything fit as it should we decided to take alittle more weight off as well. Now down to 2.5 grams a piece. I ran these in the 20 packs on labor weekend without issues.

So I ditched the old front shocks. They didn't have enough articulation for me and I wanted to try something different. I've usually ran a pretty stiff rig, but I've noticed in broken rock it has hindered me in a few ways. So I've loosened it up a bit.

I pick up a set of the 4.5" Big bores, added 35wt oil, Green rear mini-t springs and jeepindoug retainers to the front.

Suspension cycles very smooth, and I got that touch more flex that I wanted.

And ya, tons of steering too!

Then I went ahead and filled the remaining slug holes in the front to see how well it would improve my climbs.

sorry for the crappy cell pics.
