OK,time to chime in..

got the product monday..DLux tube retro kit, ckrc solid axle for the rear and axial Cs..just finished with the assembly...but need more tools to finish steering mod..
Eric....this was a very simple assembly,no directions just pictures and Old Man inginuity
I will have pics posted hopefully by tomorrow...will test this weekend at the Super secret Squirrel SPOT
will include video if I can get some good footage..

Side note to all... my rig before the DLux tube kit weighed 6.81lbs..

just weighed after assembly and it now weighs 5.10lbs
that was even after stock dog bones in rear upgraded to 6m shafts..

ok my bad the total weight loss was 1/2 lb..I kept looking at the numbers and couldnt figure out the dramatic weight loss I forgot to put the knuckle weiths on the scale too..

so actual weight complete..6 lbs..sorry for the confusion

I will post pics of before(Fatty) and after (Dramatic weight loss) on the scale..
I have been watching this thread closely and would like to thank Eric for his Amazing IDEAS and machine work...and for the opportunity to test this HELL of an UPGRADE...

Stay tuned............................................. .........................

I was trying to figure that out since the stock tubes don't even weigh close to that...

LOL. Damn. Too good to be true.

I just assumed that he had lead servo mounts and lots of bedazzling done to his stock housings.

8oz is still a TON of weight. I cant wait to hear how it drives.

Hopefully not too much longer. Just about everybody has them installed now and I have had some great feedback.

I also need to clear other stuff out of the way before I can start. I am doing most of the stuff manually (no CNC) so I have a huge amount of time into each set. I want to be able to hit the ground running when I do start releasing them so there is not a huge back order.

Sounds a great approach Erik - certainly looking forward to seing these on the site and placing an order for a full set

Way cool stuff Erik.

The downside of all of this delrin art is that I can no longer rag on XR10 owners as driving "Barbies". My "plastic is for Barbies" stab has lost its point.

Yeah, delrin is hard to beat. Super light weight and pretty strong too. I have that front AL tube down to the smallest diameter that I think you could get away with. Its still almost 2x as heavy as the delrin which is a lot thicker. Sometime in the future when I have more time, I am going to try some smaller delrin to see exactly how thin you can get away with.

Special thanks to the BYBRCC for testing the servo mount on other types of axles. Looks like it should be a good solid, universal mount for other axle housings with mild modifications.

Finally,...

I was able to source some bearings and found out that stock axles (dog bones) fit the rear housing with out modification. I am pretty stoaked about this. I like parts that I can find easily and I was having problems with bending my current shafts. It should make a couple people happy because they can use my tubes and not have to get new one piece shafts.

I think ideally I need to make a new rear axle shaft that is 5mm throughout. It will have to wait until I can find the time though.

Shed a touch of weight, not bend a shaft and I am able to use stock, non drilled hexes again. Now we need to see if they will hold up. LOL

1 piece shafts 54g

Stock dog bones 48g

I ended up redoing the whole chassis. I made all the side plates out of .060 carbon fiber and I made a new skid out of .030 vs the stock one at .060.

It ended up coming in at a svelte 2oz flat for the entire chassis, screws and all. Not bad.

I have never delt with carbon fiber so I bought some not so fancy grade stuff. I am not 100% of the quality so I might buy some more but buy the good stuff now that I have a better idea how to machine it. I didnt realize that delrin is pretty comparable in weight to carbon fiber of the same thickness. If the carbon fiber does not work out for me I think I will just go to .060 delrin and keep replacing it. I did run it today with some ok tumbles and its fine. .100 thick carbon fiber is some pretty rigid stuff.

"stock" 3.7oz

"stock" with aluminium screws 3.2oz

.060 carbon fiber and .030 skid 2.0oz
