Default A Very Dlux HR/Berg Hybrid

This all started when i spiked up a convo with Erik awhile back...

"I'm so tired of my XR breaking!"

Its been pretty known throughout 801 that i drive my trucks hard. I break things constantly.

Dlux mentioned that if i couldnt find v1 berg axles, look for some HR MOA axles. Well i hunted and hunted... I didnt want any Fully loaded used Berg axles cause id be ripping it all out in favor of the Very Dlux'd stuff.

My hunt took me to Flea Bay where i found a pair of HR Axles complete. so i tossed my bid in for the stupid price of 22.00... 4 days later my phone dings... I won! lol so being blessed with an incredibly cheap way to start out, I met up with Erik for the break down.

Parts..
HR Cases (Shaved) and Gears
Dlux Rear Axles
Dlux Front Axles
Dlux Tubes
Dlux Servo Mount
Dlux Drag Link / Steering
Dlux Battery Mount
Dlux Link Mounts
Dlux Lockouts
Dlux Knuckles w/ bearings
Dlux Knuckle Weights
Dlux Lower Links
Dlux Upper Links
Dlux Carbon Beadlocks
Dlux Chassis

Cant get anymore Dlux than this lol

Novak 45's
Traxxas 2660's
Jeepin Doug Cups
Mini Pinks
CC BEC
CC micro sidewinders
Hitec 5990 (from the mini)
Futaba 4PL

Erik really delivers on the top quality parts and is the man when it comes to getting work done. I think i was over at the shop getting the parts and building the ones i could for 4hrs or so. Cool guy, Cool shop, Bitchin Parts!

no need to wait to see... its built.. has been for a few weeks now. But this is something to see..

for those of you guys that think HR gears wont work for a V1 berg... take a good close look at this..

besides the pitch change on the large 2nd... they are pretty much the same damn thing. Bearing bosses in the cases are identical, aside from the small odd bearing on the small 3rd.

I was quite pleased to find the pitch change... as this opens up alot of good and readily available gearing options.

where the pitch changes

Well the HR 48p 2nd was noisy and slow! my 45's drove like 75's. Still wanting some good 35's for this truck but have to bend pennies as it is for the moment.

side by side pic.. stock HR(48p) vs Stock Berg (mod 0.6)

this was a direct swap... no modification needed to any of the HR gears or Cases. Now running standard V1 reduction, my 45's are close to my XR's wheel speed. But with more strength than i know what to do with.

After 2 comps and countless practice sessions i have yet to see and damage to the HR gears.. must be made from the same steel that their Wraith gears are from. so im happy with them.

The Stock Aluminum HR Locker did start to "bow tie" quite a bit so Erik tossed me a set of Stock berg Steel lockers.

Needed to make room on the HR gear for this seat that the hobby knife is pointing too.

after some reaming and grinding.. i decided to lighten them up too

no more locker slop now.

Dlux offers these as a very beef alternative to the 300's

excuse the partially assembled pics but you guys know what Bully shafts and Knuckles look like.

Custom cut and knotched to work with his tubes the bully shafts are BEEF!!

Dlux then milled out a set of Bully Knuckles to get the absolute most steering possible, and milled bearing bosses for king pins. buttaaaa!

Pics showing Left and Right Kuckles and Shafts

***note*** when Erik says they arent 1.5mm screws, dont use a 1.5mm wrench to tighten your knuckle weights. LOL cost me a decent finish....

Looks good JJ! I didnt think you were going to do a build.

You know those lockers were just loaners that I wanted back

Is that a new chassis or Eric's old one since he switch to a HALLSTYLE?

Way to go with the bully shafts! Super strong and cheap!

Yea I feel very lucky to be one of the selected few to run his chassis. I totally dig the different look this chassis has. 801 is full of the Switch and chaotic pros. So this let's me stand out.

Few quick snaps...... Before the CvD pin Snapped. I'm willing to bet Dlux has a fix for that!

This is a fresh cut. He still has his.

That hallstyle chassis is Crazy. I can't wait to see it in action. Just need to have our scheduling line up lol

Large 2nds and the lockers. the HR gears look good so far. Erik still remains sketched about the small gears but I'm giving them the benefit. From what I've read their gears hold up to some power.

He does. Some super strong ones for the cvd's and hex pins. I'm surprised he didn't have you put them in to begin with?

If I can muster up the cash before best of the west. I'll get the pins and have the Dlux treatment on the gears and 2660's. But I'm possibly starting a new job this upcoming week for a company in San Diego, so time will be my greatest foe.

That will put it under 5. And if John at Holmes hobbies can build me some flows I'll be chasing Erik and his hallstyle.

With the cvd pin breakage i ordered up some Dlux HD Pins. Got enough to do up the whole truck.

Pictured is the Stock RC4WD pin (broken) to Dlux HD

Erik gave instruction to shave a 1/16 or so off the cvd pin to clear the retainer sleeve.

Untrimmed

Trimmed

the broken pin made a mess of the clean movement of the cvd so a bit of clean up was done.

the passenger side was still holding. But im glad i got enough to redo the whole truck. the wear on this part is easily overlooked.

Huge thanks to Erik at Dlux Fab for opening up on a Sunday to get me rolling this afternoon.
