| Budget Universals! More steer for less dollars
So we are all trying to save money, and increase performance at the same time. This is an idea I have had for a while, and figured I would see how many of you berg lovers would want a set of these. They're simply a wraith set, modified to fit into a berg. You will need to use XR/Wraith chubs and knuckles for this mod. Here is a teaser shot. I still need to do the long side, but this one test fitted fine. I lathe/mill these to close to spec, then hand sand/grind the rest of the way to ensure a nice snug fit Who would like a set of these guys? I put them on my site in the link below so you can get an idea on price. I will also probably be offering the same for the rear using modified wraith straight axle shafts. Why not mill the flats? Plus the pin needs to be a complete circle, the flats shouldn't run onto the locating pin. |

I think they are a fantastic idea! I wish you had an option for Bully stubs.... $65 is a steal... if mine dont work out I will have to try these and figure out an adapter for my Bully stuff. Have you ever modded the ears for 60* of steering? Just curious how they hold up. |

I may be able to get them to work on a bully. I just gave back a bully axle to a buddy on Friday that I borrowed to look at too lol Yes, I have shaved them down for up to 70* of steering without issue. Lemme know if you want some 1 off stuff. You know my # I'd be happy to help |

Great idea Chris! Ya got me thinking about my retired hr moa..... No one ever made a set of cvd s for it and it needs them......BAD Let me know if ya got any ideas for that thing... Stock shafts are weak... I use modded berg shafts that still suck and steering is lame compared to the xr. Last edited by JokersWild; 11-26-2012 at 12:41 AM. |

| Re: Budget Universals! More steer for less dollars SDS did. I used to run HR's for a couple years. Have some odd ball parts laying around. I had the super 300's in mine. They worked great |

The XR/wraith stuff isn't anywhere near as strong as the 300HD's. I had my XR's clearanced to 60 and had them turning 55 or so. One day without warning it snapped between the ear and the small diameter shaft. The XR stuff works great for up to 50 degrees of steering, just like the various "CVD's" out there. Much beyond that and the forces go up exponentially. The other issue I see is with how small the diameter is on the shaft where the tang is. Looks like it'll be very (xr) sloppy in not much time and aluminum will get chewed up if used for a "locker/diff". Isn't there a vendor offering nearly the exact same thing except with a new inner shaft? |

I love the idea of budget shafts for my berg... But I also broke an ear off of a stock axial shaft. I think our terrain could have some effect on this as well... We see a lot of high traction holes up here the we should all take repo's for but never seem to...lol However that is awesome out of the box thinking and I will def. keep my eyes peeled for testing results!!! |

So I am not sure what you guys are doing to break them, but I have never had an issue with em, nor have heard of anyone breaking em until now But keep in mind.... I am not offering the best option in the world.... I am offering another option for people on a budget. If you can afford 175 for SDS universals... Then why would you buy these? I am not advertising these to be as strong as a nice VP or SDS shaft. They are what they are | |

| Re: Budget Universals! More steer for less dollars Yea I built mine at the same time dev built his..... I didn't get any secret squirrel stuff for my rig. Really I want a cheap upgrade for strength and steering. Had all berg internals from day one so those are not an issue. This rig anymore just hangs on the wall.... Totally complete and I want to have a reson to pull it down. Lol. Let me know you ideas

I think some people don't recognize that if the truck is rag doll'n back & forth at you when bound up, it probably will break before freeing up.
